this post reminds me of a guy that worked for us…

the guy used to work for pearce signs for about 5 years all over the UK before coming to work for us.

he was an idiot! just thought ide get that out the way now… :lol1:

anyway, he cut a sheet of 3 metre red acrylic wrong, cut it a 1/4 inch shy over the full length.
as it was me that discovered the error i shook my head and said, "for god sake, go and trim the 1/4 inch by the length off it so we can get on???
20 minutes past and it dawned on me he kept walking the length of the table back and forth… i was in the office and could see him out the corner of my eye through a window. i walked out and upto him watching… (radio blaring, he didnt notice me)
He had a steel rule in his hand and holding it against the edge of the acrylic, then walking backwards dragging it, he was taking fractions of a mill of the acrylic off the edge.

I said, "what the hell are you doing?"
he said, "trimming a 1/4 inch off the perspex as you told me too!"

    😮 😮 😮

i said, "you have been there over 20 bloody minutes, use the flaming jigsaw!"

he said, "ive only got another 5mm to go"

    😮 😮 😮

i said, "that will take you another 30 minutes, are you crazy?"

he said, "i know, but its more fun this way"

    😮 😮 😮

i said, "get the jigsaw and cut the rest off, or your next bit of fun will be signing on tomorrow morning" :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

he lasted about 6 weeks, thats 6 weeks too much in my view… no bloody wonder pearce went bust! :lol1:

    somone told everyone… 😕 😳

not sure to be honest karl… i heard it was the time they took to trim acrylic that was the straw that broke camels back :lol1:

in all honesty, i read/heard a few things but really don’t remember… when a company of this size goes under its never down to one thing… probably been on the cards for a long time but progressively got worse.

Martin, I used to deal with Pearce about 5 years ago. Met many good blokes there mate. Making comments like that regarding a mans downfall aint funny. We all fear going t*ts up.

Karl, every company the size of Pearce signs has people working for them that are being carried by the other workers, Robert made a comment about someone that had previously worked for Pearce Signs who wasn’t very good and I just played on that a little. I am sure Pearce signs had a lot of very good people working for them and I am sure that they went on to find other employment as most companies complain that there is a shortage of quality sign people about to employ.

If you want to get on in life you just have to try and see the best in every situation no matter how bad it seems.

I accept your point Martin. From an outsiders point of view. Have you ever lost everything? I know you’ve had your problems. No one has mocked you. From the posts I’ve read on here everyone including me has been sympathetic to you. Losing something on a large scale for the man at the top is something that my entire family have experienced. It ended up killing my dad. So tell me, where is the joke?

That depends on your definition of everthing Karl, if my comment offended you that much I will quite happily delete it as I have no intention of offending anyone on these boards, I would leave the forum before I let that happen.

Karl, i understand your view, but it is hardly slagging the company for their loss.
the joke is the guy that came to work for me after having been with one of the largest sign firms in the UK for 5 years… nothing more in it mate… 😕

Maybe I took it a bit too serious. It’s late, I’m still at work and knackered.
Sorry to bite your head off Martin. The conversation just locked on a touchy subject for me.

Karl, I have deleted the original post now anyway, some things can be more upsetting to some people than others but believe me without going into detail I know all about loss. One thing I learnt was to focus on the positive things in life no matter how small or you just end up becoming bitter and twisted.

As for my head, don’t worry the hospital can sew it back on again, they did a brilliant job sticking my ear back on when it came off :lol1:

I did a lot of work for Pearce over the years, supplied most of their vinyls to their Cumbernauld branch. The workshop there was antiquated. But a nice bunch of people. I still do bits and pieces now and again for ex employees.
But I’m curious to know who that was Robert ………….. :lol1: Anyone I know?

i wouldnt imagine marcella, his name was Jim would be about 35 just now… he worked more down south fitting on location and did electrics as well as other stuff. he called us from england saying he was getting engaged and wanted a job where he would work in scotland fitting signs.
having come from pearce and 5 years under his belt, i thought he would be worth it, so started him.

    how wrong was i? 😕
