    Hi Guys,
we have been running our embroidery machines on windows 95 pentium one computers with the Melcro EDS 5 software for about the last 15 years! The windows 95 computer has just given up the ghost! I am looking to buy a new program that enables you to view the files and possibly do some standard lettering. Can any of you embroiderers out there recommend anything?
    cheers

    Hi Dan,
I use Wilcom Embroidery Studio. It gives me all the digitising and editing that I need. ( I do all my own digitising). If you want only text and minor digitising then you could try Deco Studio. Either way, you are looking at a lot of money. The support for Wilcom is very good.

I occasionally use a program called Pulse Signature. Does all I ever want, but then I don’t do that much embroidery and all my jobs are digitised outside so all I really require is that I can open the file and convert it to something the machine will understand.
I think there is a trial version available.

I think Wilcom had a tie with Corel (or vice versa whichever way you look at it) so if you are a Draw user this may be an answer. http://www.corel.com has a link to it I think but as others have said – not cheap.

As Alan said, Wilcom is linked with Corel. You can draw your design in Corel and then use the Auto convert function and it comes into Embroidery Studio as Embroidery. Its not perfect as densities, stitch type, direction and so on have to be changed. But its very good.

    thanks guys,
the price of embroidery software and digitizing software has always amazed me! That’s why we have been using our original one for so long!! I was at a trade show last year and there is a plug in for illustrator and i thought fantastic, I know how to use illustrator and already have a copy and perhaps this is the time to start doing our own digitizing and then he told me its 9000 euros!!!

I spoke to our rep this morning and he kept tying to sell me expensive software, what i am really looking for is something like buzz tools or the like that has basic features and lets you view all the designs? And perhaps create the odd text here and there?

i have googled and seen a few around 200 euros but don’t really want to jump without getting an opinion first. i’ll keep looking and let you know, i know probably the best thing to do is reinvest in a decent software, but we never have the time to do our own digitizing and we have a top quality service who do it for us for a reasonable price and the results are great every time!

    thanks guys

    Hi Dan,
    Have a look on http://www.digitsmith.com/f17.html
Ask your question there , it is a garment decorating forum . T-shirt forum might be of help as well.
Embird is often talked about and the people rate it highly considering the price you pay for it.
    Earl.

    Dan,
I appear to have what they describe as ”Scribe”. Mine must be 10 years old now so it’ll have been updated many times. I have about 10-15 fonts that I can use to create my own layouts and not a lot more, although I confess I never really got the embroidery off the ground, with a single head machine it would be very hard to earn a living. Nowadays I only do 3 or 4 jobs a year, including my own clothes.
I bought the software from a company called YES in Nottinghamshire 01623 863345.
