Just about to take delivery of a Edge System, and have a few questions to all that use one.

What would you say was the best layout for it. eg.Printer on the right of the cutter etc. (photos of your layout would help greatly)

Compatable Cartrages. What make do you use?Where do you get them from?

Getting Omega 1.56 with it, I have the chance to upgrade to Omega 2.0, or Signlab.
I am heading to go for the SL software, as I have used this for years. But I don`t want to swap over to SL, and find I`ve made a grave mistake. Heard so many things about it.

I have been told that alot of people just use Omega as just a means to print and cut. They design in their fave package and export to Omega to print and cut.

What do all you edge people do???

i will post a pic later today if everything goes ok
but for this month only Metamark are selling DURACOAT Foils
1/3 off and more…..good quality and you can get 90m rolls
each one comes with a free head wipe, i use them now in preference to Gerber originals, i dont like SIGNFOILS i find the quality not as good
    maybe just me.
Another great buy was the edge foil storage unit, pic to follow keeps everything tidy and easy to see at a glance

Also make sure the edge is kept in a clean area, no dust …..
as you know i use signlab e6 and export to omega via gad format, this is
because i am lazy and dont want to use omega but i am spending wed and thurs at the NEC looking at Signlab Thermal and Omega 2

    More later

I have been a Gerber shop for years so have used Graphix Advantage in different versions and then on to Omega, I did a cross grade to Signlab 5 Colormaster a few years ago, I then upgraded to E6, but never use it….not because I don’t want too just liked and got use to Gerber software. I haven’t seen Omega 2 or Signlabs thermal module, I am sure they compliment each other, and that one lacks something the other has etc etc.

I guess its what your used too.

Gerbers software works great with their equipment, I never have any problems designing in it either, for effects etc or more advanced printable graphics, I use Photoshop and a shedload of plug-ins.

I use Gerber foils and Duracoat, again they compliment each other in colour ranges. I have 9 Signfoils here but saw an orange wash off the first time a truck got washed maybe bad luck who knows?

I think one of the most valuable things to learn is to select the right material, and colour of vinyl to get the right settings, the default is Scotchcal 220.

Keep your head clean, using only isopropanol, never touch the head with your fingers, and have fun.

I remember the first job I did it was like printing “real money” its a great machine and a good moneymaker.

I will also try and post a couple of pics of our layout.

    Hi again,

I probably don’t have the “perfect” layout 🙂 but it works OK!

We have a large workshop, and the office is up in one corner and is about 50 square metres, when you come in there is a customer bar which just stops people coming up and breathing down your neck, behind that I have all my punched 15″ material, close at hand.

and then from the other side…

everything is quite close to the main computer which is set up with dual monitors…

Immediately behind my desk and the Edge I have my Summa T series plotter, and my old faithfull Sprint that I do my edge contour cutting with, and where I keep some of the foils, we also have an old Gerber 30″ plotter for making pounce patterns.

At the back of the office we have a our vinyl stock we built our own roll holders for 250 rolls, and also have a little place for sitting and taking it easy.

Oh well it might help you abit, I guess we all think of ways to improve all the time, if I built my office again now it probably would be alot different to what it is now!

We tend to spend more time out in the workshop than in the office.

We’ve all got photos of her, why didn’t she tell you? You can buy some if you’d like but the really good ones are all already sold!

Thanks for the replys, seems I`m on the right track.

Proberly have to make some storage units for the tapes, as I don`t have all that much room.

Waiting for the Spandex engineer to come out and set up the machine, can`t wait…..
