• Eco freindly Signage

Posted by Paul Rollason on January 9, 2006 at 1:05 pm

We have been asked by a client who is very environmentally aware if we can supply signage that is environmentally freindly

    Any Ideas?

I know that they make plastics from hemp and the like but what is an eco way of making signs

I said the the most eco freindly way was to reuse her existing signs as much as possible and we can re-paint them but see wants us to use eco freindly paints as well

If any of you have any ideas I would be very interested

    Hmmmm

Corrogated cardboard, painted with mud & blood (hers, of course)?

You’ll have to re-do them after every rainfall, but the turnover for you will be great! :lol1: :lol1:

    Sorry…..I’l leave quietly sir…..

    Hi

How about going to a reclamation yard and see what you can find?

    Good idea

The problem with this type of client is that you can spend hours searching around for suitable materials only to find that they are not willing to pay to much for a piece of wood we found in a skip.

There are a lot of pallets in the yard at the moment, I could put together a nice rustic, hand painted sign from those.

I’ll let you know what happens

Don’t forget that Eco friendly doesn’t always mean reusing old stuff.
It also includes use of electric, solvents and many other things so yes you could reuse an old piece of wood but if you then have to use an electric sander for half a day then 10 coats of paint to make it looks presentable then that’s not Eco friendly.

I think that your best option is to say your a small company and as such you use your available resources to the full, you use every scrap of material to it’s full potential, turn off unnecessary electrical items when there not in use etc etc.

I’m quoting for some signs for a recycling company at the moment and they recycle a lot of plastics so I’m going to ask them about the waste PVC, vinyls and backing paper as I see this as the most wasteful aspect of the sign industry.
