Thanks Johnboy I have got back on to ebay and again expressed my concerns so there is not much more can be done if ebay let the auction run then someone is going to get their fingers burnt, you’d think anyone could spot such an obvious scam I guess some people are blinded and the idea of getting the bargain of a lifetime it clouds their judgement

I’ll freely admit I’m daft sometimes *hair*
My wife has saved me from many scams 😳

There are folks who tend to be the trusting type and they like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Sad thing is of course it is done with their own money. 🙁

Whilst I am now aware of many scams 👿 (many directly exposed by uksignboards) I do not think I am insulated completed, as quite often they are trying even more craftier methods to catch us out.

I’m all for exposure and I believe it is valuable asset to the site

    John 😀

99% of the scams on Ebay only work because of buyers greed, which falls into 2 catagories :

    1) I can buy this really cheap and sell it on and make a bundle.

    2) I can buy this really cheap when eeryone else has paid full price, how clever am I ?

There are VERY VERY FEW real bargains on Ebay now that everyone knows about it. I stared using it about 5 years ago, and you would get quite a few real bargains where the seller didnt know the value of what they were selling, but as there are now so many items on there, all sellers need to do is look what the others sold for and price theirs accordingly.

Plus, it is a playground for scammers – as Ebay dont carry out any proper verification of sellers, its open season for the dodgy people out there.

    Hi Mike,
your spot on. Even compared to a year ago, the bargains aren’t there.

I went on last week looking for a Mac keyboard and mouse. Most USED items on there were going for around £40 + for the pair. I saw one lot go for £47 + £7 postage and they’d have paypal charges, etc.
Checked on the Apple site, £39 brand new and £5 post (as it was I picked this up from our local Apple centre, so no post).
I think too many people get caught up in auction frenzies trying to outbid each other.
If I see something I like that I think might be still available, I copy the description and ‘Google’ it. Most times it comes back cheaper for a new item than something that someones trying to sell for as close to the price they paid for it a while back.
Saying that I still spend too much money buying LP’s !!! My wife goes nuts every month at the paypal amounts on the bank statement. I’ll need to open another bank account shortly!!
    John.

I took delivery of a pnc900 12″ cutter and probably between 500/600 metres of mixed colour vinyl + app tape I got it from ebay before I reveal what I paid for it I would’nt mind a more experienced opinion of what it would be worth, I think I got a real bargain so any opinions regarding it’s value would really be appreciated

There is a certain album out there that has been selling for silly prices. I won’t pay more than £5 +p&p for it but on average it goes for £10 and more. Now here is the silly bit. At the moment someone has put it on second hand with a starting price of £15. Then if you scroll down a few items there is the same item brand new with a buy it now tag of 8.99 +p&p 😮

Makes you drink don’t it 🙄

I also priced a PDA and satnav system. Buy it now price looked good till you scrolled down to find not only £15 p&p but VAT added on top. Now I went into PC World to price the same item on the shelf and could pick up the item for £20 LESS than on eBay (chat.)

    BUYER BEWARE!

Saying that I have had many good buys as I do my homework first.

    Hi

I recently bought an item from ebay which also looked to good to be true. we had a telephone system put in by BT and just the phones for reception and one of the offices cost us over £300 each 😳 (although they are very nice and flash) after a couple of weeks the marketing guy decided that he should have one of these phones (he was lumbered with a £10 phone from Argos) and so on the off chance that some one would be selling on eBay he went on and found a guy in ilford (London) selling a barely used one (same model) for a ‘buy now’ price of just £50 and turned up to work the next day and plugged his new phone in.

He is now happy but I had to pay over £600 for two bloody phones. (hot)
