  • DVLA legislation changing on vehicle wraps

    Some of you are probably aware that the DVLA’s position on colour change wraps has recently changed, and they have decided that they do need to be notified if a vehicle has had a full colour change wrap. Does anyone know where we stand with commercial vehicles that have a full printed wrap in lots of colours?

    Just been googling this – I understand that one colour option that can be used to describe it is "multi".

    Is an admin fee charged by the dvla for updating a V5?

    Another question would be how much of the paintwork do you have to cover for the DVLA to need to be notified? For example if I wrap the back doors and sides of a van up to the side doors as we sometimes do, does that count?

    Seems like there will be a large grey area there. I think we will have to use our judgement and advise the customer on certain jobs with high or full coverage that they may need to advise the DVLA. If we do that in writing on our signed proof then we should be covered.

    Don’t actually know

    However probably the reason for the DVLA’s stance is a security ID one in today’s world of counterfeit/cloning/terrorism

    A vehicle involved in a serious accident such as a hit and run and the only detail is that it was a red fiat for e.g.

    A fully digitally printed vehicle private or commercial would be difficult to classify as a colour and is probably obvious that it is not its true colour anyhow

    Would it not be the customers responsibility to inform the DVLA?

    It would be I guess the same as if you took your car along to a garage to be resprayed but in a different colour, onus would be on the owner to inform DVLA not the sprayer
