  • Dust free laminating – Any Tips

Posted by Mike Thornley on April 25, 2016 at 10:41 am

We have a very clean workhop environment, but when laminating prints we are still getting specs of dust or dirt if you like under the laminate, which is very frustrating. Is this dust coming from the back paper
We always wipe the print with a tac cloth, before feeding into the laminator.
Anyone have any tips or working methods we would be grateful.

Not sure you can ever remove every thing 100% but we have found using a lint free cloth and wiping the print from side to side just before it feeds through keeps it 99% clean, so long as you remember to keep a turning motion without going off the end of the print and back on again.

    Hope that helps

When we vacuum the shop we first spray water up into the air from a spray gun.
The water mist ingests the dust particles floating in the air and brings them down to the ground.
We then hoover up, from tables, chairs, floor etc.

Also we blow compressed air over the print and the back of the laminate just before laminating.

I cant say we have eliminated the problem, but we are getting some way there. 🙄

Wipe it as it’s fed in…keeps dust to an absolute minimum.

We rarely have problems with dust, even after sticking carpet tiles down.

Although we do wipe as we feed the boards into the laminator. When doing print off the roll the first 200-400mm are used to feed in and then the prints coming straight off the roll into laminator.

Using the easymount we feed in from the rear top spindle, and don’t go over the drop down bench, just round the roller and out the back.
