Simon, go to your local DIY place & ask if they have Abitibi Board or Thrifty White (used for home-remodeling projects as wallboard in bathrooms) Comes in a 4×8 sheet, about 8 to 10mm thick, costs about $10 here.
You can mask the cut lines off with tape & cut with a circular saw. Lightly sand the cut edges.
Apply graphics, clean with Windex, then wax with spray-on furniture polish. Works just as well as dry-erase. Tell the customer to occasionally re-wax. Framing is optional, I’m no carpenter so i can’t tell ya how to do that.

    Hi Simon,

Get hold of a sheet of high gloss foam board (forex top is ideal) this works perfectly as dry wipe board and is a hell of a lot cheaper than the “proper” dry wipe board

    Cheers Guys.
They have been using perspex and gloss foamex, but they have told me after some time they become stained and unreadable????
They are insisting on the proper stuff

We have used dry wipe vinyl from Victory Design before. Not sure of size and price, but may be worth giving them a call.

I’ve been testing some 651 white slapped onto a piece of foamboard for about 5 weeks now. I write something on in the morning, like “Remember to eat your dinner Dewi” or similar, then wipe it off at night before I go home. Its working okay still, comes up nice and clean.

Is it down to the pens you use or is it that I’d not testing it enough, as the 651 seems to be doing the job okay?

Sorry for my naivity, just like messing with stuff 😛

    Cheers, Dewi

I think you may very well have problems with std gloss foam not wiping clean after a bit and also the vinyl too Dewi….. though as you say a lot is down to the type of markers you use.
I have had problems in the past and would only use the “proper” stuff now to avoid comebacks.
You can get white/clear drywipe vinyl from Hexis and other suppliers. For rigid boards with ali frames I use http://www.activeuk.com/html/categories/boards.htm
    they always seem pretty helpfull.

I used to do them in white 751 vinyl but like above have had complaints about the ink not coming off totaly. Now I use the proper stuff, last week made three with some clear gloss from, dare I say it, KPMF. I did find it rather thick, so I have ordered some thinner stuff from ….. oh no I have forgotten the name…. something like Drycal, it is cheaper too, they specialise in laminates and vinyl for print.

I will let you know how it goes when I get it.

    Cheers

I have only used the Kay stuff, I don’t know if they’re all like this, but occasionally it is a good idea to clean the board with a fluid that comes with the pens. It removes built up ink. I think the vinyl dry wipe can become scratched and worn after a while and encourages the ink to stain somewhat. Maybe using this fluid would help with the same problem on gloss foamex?
