Looking for some info regarding doming, I currently buy carbon fibre effect digits pre-domed for making number plates. Have found a supplier for the vinyl and would like to dome them myself. I have never done this before and have been looking into it recently, my concern is applying the resin to irregular digits/text, any tips or advice ?

I assume applying to squares, circles etc you apply req amount starting in the centre, but where would you start with the letter E or a number 8 for example.

    Thanks in advance

bob when doming, right angle corners are to be avoided, so for the letter E you need to round the corners, inside and outside, even a small radius
will do , when applying the resin, trace round the shape of the E along the centre line, you will get a feel for how much you need with practice. Dont put to much down to start with and after about 5 minutes you can add more if required, hope this is helpfull,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I am looking at whats on the go regarding doming, would like to get involved with badges, decals etc. I take it you do doming ?

Do you have one of these pc60 or versacam printers to print your badges/logos ? I know a couple of firms do complete starter packages around £1000. Print on an inkjet then run through a cutter, CPL-20 which contour cuts the badge or logo ready to dome.

Looking for as much info as possible

    Thanks again

We tried doming, and its fine if you have market for the products. for me its labour intensive, and because there are just the two of us, We can utilize our time more profitably, We use a gerber which is ideal for small labels and stuff but the added value off doming is not that great.

I do extensive doming and have written some articles on it here and other places , It’s not rocket science but needs care taken in respect of environment etc. Search the boards here for doming and my name to get earlier posts. I think I went into this in a big way here.
Easiest way to start is to get a gun from Mockridge (www.mockridge.com) and fiddle a little at a very low cost.
