Domain Hosts
Posted by John Wilson on December 30, 2008 at 6:21 pmHey hope everyone had a good xmas 😀
Thinking about switching domain hosts for the start of the new year
Been using UKReg http://www.ukreg.com/ for the last few years but just don’t find them that useful at times so thinking of switching but not sure who too since there is so many out there
Who’s using who and what do you think of them?

I’ve been using easyspace http://www.easyspace.com since 1999.
I did have a problem with them a few years ago when I genuinely forgot to renew my domain hosting subscription (I never received any reminders apart from the first request for renewal fees). Rather then send me additional reminders the site was taken down without prior notice. Once I had determined what the problem was and paid my hosting renewal fees I had to re-load the site in it’s entirety again. Fortunately I had a backup but a few aspects of the site (which had been added on ad hoc) were lost. They were only contactable by email – and most of the replies were automated. No telephone number was available to speak to any one in person (don’t know if this is still the case today)
Consequently – although I’ve struck with them – I wouldn’t really recommend them.

I use 1and1.co.uk for my personal & work host. Trouble free, cheap & reliable.
This site is hosted by them also. 🙂

I would keep your domains on UKREG, not really a problem… however if you want to use a different internet host, then that isn’t a problem too… u just point Nameservers to another, I wouldn’t bother with transferring them around the internet.. no need.

1and1 for me too, no trouble so far and dead easy to use. Control panel gives you total control of domains, sub-domains, e-mail and lots of features for adding stuff to your website. I find the traffic tracking tools very handy, find out who is visiting and where they are going :lol1:

good packages and prices and the backup although an online chat is very quick and efficient.

I’d used Fasthosts for years until we changed hosting after getting the Business Link grant.
We had one remaining package with fasthosts (a local community forum) which came up for renewal last week. What a carry on getting the dns changed over.
They’re a SME provider but I’ve not had a single problem with Red Rose Internet since changing over to them. Got everything with them now.
