    Does anyone use Universal?
Their delivery charges are getting beyond acceptable.
    For instance 10 x Direx door panels = £50. Delivery is £30.
Apparently it’s the same for any size order.
Now last time I ordered some of these (February) the delivery was £25, so it’s gone up again, and that was for £20 worth of panels.
It’s not like they come in a lorry, just Parcel Post!!
Seems that being a small business with only odds & sods orders means you don’t even hit their radar.
If I didn’t have to match up to existing ones I would go elsewhere.
Imagine if all suppliers acted like this. I think there would be a few more management defectors like occurred at Universal.

Count yourself lucky that you don’t live in Scotland….

At last count I was £50 to get ‘anything’ delivered by the Universal truck, including £80 lightboxes.

Opted for the courier – at £25 it’s a risk of damage, but still £50….

Have spoken to them on numerous occasions about it…same reply. It’s not worth us coming for anything less. OK, that’s business, I understand…still sucks to be me!

Its fine complaining about prices but you have the option to vote with your feet, the same as your customers do, if the price is stated before you purchase, then not a lot you can do, but in the current economy there is going to be a lot of increases with anything to do with transport (and thats most things)and very soon 🙁

Trouble is Peter – they make probably the best boxes around in my opinion. Tried others but they were just a bit too flimsy or looked seriously inferior…and were.

In the end – it’s my customers that pick up the tab of the extra £25 I’d rather not be paying to maintain the quality product – damned if I’m taking the hit!

Well surely we are back to the old chestnut, if your customer wants the quality, they have to pay the price, is that not what we have been saying for years?
If you can’t pass the cost on, then the customer will have to settle for an inferior product, their choice.
No reason why you should absorb the increase, unless your margins were higher than they needed to be in the first place. ( they should have been anyway, to allow a buffer for supplier increases)

David, their reasoning was that ALL orders are charged the same delivery regardless of size. I guess it’s the Scotland bit that gives them reason to add on.
Peter. I would and will walk away in future (for this product) but in this case I have to match up to what I have previously supplied, so they’ve got me by the dangly bits.

for small orders can you not buy through a local distributor, I know Robert Horne (should) stock direx. Maybe there are others.
£25-30 delivery on an illuminated box is not bad though.

Might try that in the future.
Anyway, after complaining bitterly, carriage reduced to £13 😛
