Just wondering what your thoughts are with these things?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.Paul Humble replied 16 years, 1 month ago 10 Members · 19 Replies -

Think it’s the Roland Metaza photo engraver, but I don’t know if anyone on the boards has personal experience of them. They were demonstrated at SignUK last year and although I thought the results were impressive, I felt you would have to have the correct outlet to make it work eg stall in shopping mall, or something along those lines.

I’m don’t know allot about them, these are just initial thoughts…
we did have something like this in the past, but stuck the machine in a cupboard and got on with things we found made us better, easier money.
like dawn, i think a good outlet is essential. maybe even something higher profile than a market stall, perhaps a fun park like Alton towers were i saw them really cash in with lazered products.
i don’t know the outlay for this kit but ide think it would be hefty.. that coupled with rent, rates etc getting a return might be a long process.
i recon promotional type companies that do pens, key rings, mouse-mats, clocks etc that sorta thing could do well with these on board but not necessarily a sign company.

We bought a Metazza from Roland last year as a product for the photographic side of our business. Results were OK, but decided it wasn’t going to give a good enough return for the time required. You would be lucky to charge £10 for a pendant and, like has already been said, you would only make it pay if you had a stall running it all day. More value in doing a decent sign.

I agree that running it as well as a sign business would be a waste of the machine. I’m thinking of getting the wife involved with the personal goods side of things.
I bought some sublimation gear last year and l haven’t had the time to push it, as a result it has been a waste of money for me. My wife now seems to be interested in doing it at craft fairs etc……… We did one together in December and did pretty well, just thought about the metaza as an add on to it. -

Did you end up getting a Metazza??
I’m thinking of getting one for the exact same reason but unsure
Does anyone know if it’s possible to lease one from Roland?

the Metaza can be a fantastic little money maker BUT you have to be in a high street location or better still a shopping mall!
I’ve had my machine for over a year now & get a very positive feedback from my customers.

Just found this site which may interest you John?

I know, it takes some length of time to get an answer on this forum 😉
It just so happened I was doing a search on google images for some metaza pictures for a flyer I’m putting together and Pyram’s original post came up on the search result.
Honest, I’m not kicking about in the basement reading old posts

How noisey are these machines? Say, compared to a plotter? I have a genuine reason for asking, honest!

Once the lid is placed down all you here is a small buzz while the head strikes the pendant, nothing to worry about

Thanks, just we thought about getting one just for my wife to use for craft fair trinkets, ebay stuff etc. I wasnt really bothered about making a huge profit, just wanted something she could do and enjoy while my daughter was at Nursery. Just was worried that the man in the office next door would hear a loud screeching noise.
