  • Does anyone manufacture signs using Copper sheet?

Posted by Myles Brewer on July 14, 2011 at 3:04 pm

    Hi All,

I have an unusual request from a local designer looking to get a back lit sign tray style sign, only with the face in copper with fret cut lettering backed with a translucent orange acrylic & white leds, or orange leds & clear acrylic (Whichever would give the best effect) And finally he wanted to have his logo possibly etched into the copper. The size would be approx 300x900mm Portrait.

He wants the copper to oxidize, but I suggested that unless the logo was perhaps sealed in some way then as the whole face oxidizes the logo may disappear & by sealing the logo, that bit would retain it’s copper look.

I’m basically trying to find anyone who has experience with using copper for signs & who would be able to manufacture something like this

    Thanks
    Myles

Sounds worth robbing to be… :lol1:

I’m slightly lost though – so a fret cut logo and an etch logo?

    Hi Tim,

It’s actually fret cut company name & etched logo.

Now he is open to suggestion on this & what would work & look best, but this is the basic idea

Try multipanel Uk They supply a copper orange metallic colour composite which might do the trick.
They call it Forest Fire and it is really nice stuff

    Hi Peter,

thanks for that, but I think the idea is that he wants it made from real copper so that it oxidizes & gets the Verdi Gris effect which obviously the composite panels won’t do. But having said that, it may be a good second choice if the real copper option isn’t possible.

    Hi Myles
This company did a lot of shop fitting work in copper…might be able to advise. Can’t find a website.

No joy on that contact Harry, unfortunately they don’t do anything with copper at the moment, so back to drawing board on this one.

I’m thinking that this could perhaps be manufactured as a regular sign tray / light box with a clear polycarbonate face, back lit with orange LEDs with the fret cut / etched copper sheet overlaid.

Is there anyone out there who could produce this?
