I read a recent article about a new Signlab module due to be released at the UK sign show. Supposedly this will have improved performance features for controlling the ouput of Colorcamm and Gerber Edge graphics. Also lower temperature control of print heads to imrove print head life. Does anyone know anything about this – Sounds interesting – I would like to know more 😀

It’s like everything with Cadlink they announce stuff before it’s ready. We have been told it’s not gonna be ready for end users until September.

not sure about the tempreture thing.
i did alot of research into the roland before i bought ours way back.
asking questions on signweb and letterheads. i found out the best print performance comes when the head is warm.
so much so that other signmakers sit a heater near the machine. some heat the vinyl with a heat gun as it prints the first two to three jobs in the morning. etc etc.

ide also be interested in this solution. if there really is one. but lets see phil. they may shock us all. 😆

how is life with your machine phil. have you had many problems?

I heard from Brett (one of the technicians at Roland) that when the temperature of the head is higher you get a much denser print, he did change ours to that to show us but then reverted it back again.

I don’t know whether or not you could control it from something like signlab though, Brett had to do it with a 26 finger combination of button presses to access it!!

Apparantly though Roland only introduced the higher temp. settings to try and put people off buying "zeronine" ribbons for their machines, hasn’t stopped me though. The ones we get from Thermal Products UK work better than the originals anyway and are half the price AND there is a slightly larger range of spot colours.

the ribbon thing is true . they are available. but , & im not backing roland by any means. you have to decide this for yourself.

if you use the cheaper ribbons & the print head goes. you pay £200 plus the fitters call out charge. normally about £150

if you use the roland ribbons. you get the printe head free when you send back 200 spent catridges. they say after this amount the print head will be pretty worn anyway.

i then fitted the head myself. but unless good with things like this ide get somone to do it for you. 8)
