Does anyone here have or run a Zund?
Posted by Jason Xuereb on October 16, 2012 at 5:56 amLooking at adding a Zund cutting table to cut everything we basically produce. Looking for any real world feedback from users or owners. They seem rock solid and have a great reputation.

We run a not so new Zund P1200. It cuts all our vinyl, card, foamex, acrylic etc with the various attachments.
They are built like tanks and still runs like it did when it was new. Only had a few things go wrong with it and that was just general wear and tear, which was sorted out very quickly by their service team (which are based not far from me in St.Albans).
I couldn’t recommend them highly enough and wouldn’t hesitate in getting a new G3 if we could. -
Without a doubt Zund are a very reputable name in the industry. The possibilities are endless with a machine like this…
I was in Wm. Smithโs factory a year or so ago and spotted they use one with edge sealing option for their conspicuity films.Video (-music)

I really donโt know how they compare like for like but like the Zund, the possibilities are endless.
Might be worth comparing…Video (-music)

I agree with you Rob iv seen the esko in action such a great machine you can even use it as a plotter if your really desperate ๐ I’d buy one if I had the room and half a million
-
As you know I am torn between Esko and Zund… but i will not be getting either as it’s not heavy duty enough for our work load with fabrication.

Cheers Paul,
We are looking at the G3 2XL-3200.
Do you wish you had a wider gantry at times or can you make do with whatever width your gantry currently is? We are trying to look to the future and a 2.7m cutting width by 3.2m long seems like it will achieve alot of what we want to do.

We have one and I can honestly say that it is one of the best purchases made to date and a great sister machine to AGFA printers. Cuts perfect every time and millimeter perfect and quick too.
Not much use if you don’t pump out a lot of work but otherwise in-disposable.Ours has all the extras such as 3 station tool system. 1kw router spindle alongside ‘kiss cut’ and thru cut tools.
We have had no issues at all with the software or the machine itself…..touch wood. -

What size table do you have?
If you could list a negative about the machine what would it be besides the initial outlay for the machine? -
We have a 4m bed by 1600 wide. To be honest with you, I cannot really think of a negative at the moment. Very very intuitive and user friendly, very hard for the user to get things wrong unlike most other standard routers. Excellent finish, clean, accurate, I could go on.
I’m clearly a fan! ๐

Cheers Ryan, Haven’t spoken to one person that has said one bad word about the machines. Our Australia dealer is located 15 mins away from us so thats a huge advantage for us in case something goes wrong.
Time to go speak to our finance people and see what we can do. Will report back when we get it.

Hi Ryan,
We have a Zund G3 with 1kw router but are having problems with small pieces of lettering being sucked up via extraction, how did you get around this problem?
-
i get that on my axyz. suction can be too little or too much at times haha
-
You can adjust the strength of the vacuum on the router spindle itself by opening/closing that hole or;
Open required file in cut queue.
Click on Editor/Tools/Bridges/Settings….choose bridge width (usually approx 3mm).Then Bridges/Insert and insert the bridges where you like.
Once finished save to Cut Centre.
Then set your ‘Multi Pass Depth’ to the depth you would like to leave the tap (usually approx 0.6) but this will depend on material and a little practice.
I hope this helps.Ryan

we’ve tried adjusted the extraction power (on unit and by opening the hole at different amounts) as well as increasing the bed vacuum all with different ratios between the 2 but have found either that if the extraction doesn’t pick up the pieces it doesn’t pick up the dust either or when we get a setting to pick up the dust it will also pick up the pieces we want – no happy medium!
The software is GTK i’m not sure if there is a bridge setting (may have to do it tediously in illustrator!) suppose we’d then have to go round smoothing the bridges off once we’d picked the letters out?
-
I’m afraid so buddy yes. A pain but it’s the same for all of us.
We are running ZCC (ZUND CUT CENTRE)

Hey Nicola,
Waiting on the bank to approve everything. Probably get the deal done in January for a March delivery. Will let you guys know the update once it happens.
-
Zund is ordered.
Zund G3 2XL-3200. Got a heap of tools, router, a new feature I’m not sure I’m allowed to discuss yet, prepare-it, ICC, ATK, Kiss Cut, POT all that kinda stuff.
Can’t wait. Should arrive first quarter of 2013.
-
anyone using the GTK software with their router and not ZCC?
-
jason just got told zund was ordered yesterday for delivery the first week in march so looking forward to the new toy arriving ๐

Another name worth considering is Aristo. They’re a universal flatbed which you plug a different head onto according to what you need to produce. I know a reseller for them in Kent and I saw some of the MDF he’d cut out on his demo machine and the quality was incredible!! I seem to remember him saying they’re cheaper than the Zund too. Aristo have been around for just as long as Zund but just haven’t been marketed very well in the UK.
Having said that, many of my customers are running Zund cutters and they are seriously impressive bits of kit. I’m sure you can’t go too far wrong with either of them.
If you are interested in looking at the Aristo, look for Applied Cutting Systems (and no, they’re not a part of AIT :lol1: ) and ask for Alan.
