Does anyone have solution of the problem of .plt files?
Posted by Maureen Ellis on March 16, 2004 at 2:15 pmDoes anyone have a solution ot the problem of .plt files losing all their colour infomation when imported to signlab6 from Spandex (Graphics Advantage)?
Still with imported .plt files, is their an easier or quicker way of joining all the paths back together with the make path command in signlab – it’s very time consuming!
Any suggestion welcomed.

Don’t know about signlab etc, but i have the problem the other way round!
If i do something in Flexi, i export it as an AI / EPS file then re-open in Omega(spandex) Perhaps you could try something similar??

I think I noticed it was harder in E6 to import Omega files, I now have E6 rev 1 build 13 and it seems to work, but with an extra set of dotted lines?
Omega can export most it has I believe the same import export filter that Corel uses, and that in turn should be similar to Signlab?
There used to be problems exporting vinyl eps and ai files from Omega, centres of letters were filled but if you give the job Edge colours it seems to fix this, or save the job as a 6.2 GA file and export using the old GA import export filter.

Are we talking about gerber PLT files or exported (HPGL) PLT files? My understanding is that Signlab e6.1 will import most gerber PLT files. If this is not the case please contact me attaching the offending files and I will see what can be done.

Hello Ray – they are plt files which we import – we seem to have a number of problems- they come across without showing the colours – perhaps we are not using the correct procedure ? editing is also very difficult . How can we send you a file?

For your info.
The original import filter in SL 5.1/3 was written based on GA6.0 that could only cut vinyl. It didnt have Edge support. In that filter , absolutly every vector it saw, was imported as cut data and its color was the vinyl color of the object. In short, print only data was also imported as cut data and all info about foils abandoned. The import filter in Sl 61 and 7 has been massivly redone.
We try to match the Print Only/ Cut Only/ Print N Cut of Ga/Omega
So, Vinyl objects (by default)(but can be overridden) come in once as a Signlab Nonprinting vinyl object and then again as a cut object which displays as a dashed line.
So, vinyl objects with foil should print and display properly,
Vinyl only objetcs dont print (no foil) but do display in thier correct vinyl color. and (by default) vinyl objects will cut also.
frank at cadlinkThe latest filter allows you to Disable/enable the bringing in of vinyl objects as cuttable objects.
Dont forget, some people only/mainly print to the edge, some people only cut and dont even have an edge. They design in vinyl and send to the cutter so they need the dual import of vinyl as the dashed line cut data.Hope this clears up some confusion.
