  • Does anyone have any old DX4 Printheads kicking about?

Hi, does anyone have any old DX4 printheads they dont need, it doesnt matter if they are blocked, its just to test to see if any ink will fire through it as all 3 heads on a JV3 we acquired are completely blocked and we dont want to buy 3 brand new ones to find out there are other problems, we just want one to test

    Thanks

I’ve got a couple but I use them for diagnosing faults. Have you tried gently pushing air/solution through the heads? Did you replace the manifold on them yourself?

Thanks for your reply Stafford. Yes we have tried that and also tried to clean them in an ultrasonic cleaner. They are blocked solid. We haven’t changed the manifold either. Its ok, il keep my eye open for some. Before we aquired the machine, there were loads on the bay, now there are hardly any, typical

It might be worth reying to flush just the manifod to see if it’s blocked or not. A manifold on its own is a fraction of the cost of a printhead.

    Good luck

the heads block quick on the JV3 if not used/unplugged.
Are you getting huge resistance on the syringe on top of the heads?

I have had the manifolds off and they are clear and spray exactly as they are supposed too.
Please believe me when I say the heads are blocked and unuseable.

We bought this printer with supposedly the cyan only blocked and had been unused for a couple of months, but all the cartridges were out of date, so I could not do a print test.
After resetting the machine back to the bios date I was able to clean all the pumps and get it pulling a little ink through.
After loads of cleans and loads of soaks in the ultrasonic cleaner the best I could get is only about 25% print over all 6 colours.
I guess now this machine has been unused for a lot longer than I was told.
I am only looking for a few used heads so I can get this doing some test prints and assess the rest of the machine.

Uh-oh!! Have you ever tried to set the date forward again on one of those things? :lol1:

Why would I want to set the date forward again?
The idea was to get this running with bulk inks so this was not going to be an issue.
I just wanted to get some ink flowing through this so I could make it operational.
I know you can set the date forward again but it is a pain to do so.
At the moment the issue is the print heads.

I’m pretty sure it’s only a problem if using genuine SS2 inks. Like you say, with third party ink it shouldn’t matter.

I heard that acetone is good for unblocking heads, but I’ve not tried it myself. If I get any in over the coming weeks, I’ll give you a shout.

watch out for the date problem… mimaki decided to release firmware that allows u to only move the date forward and not backwards to stop using old carts.. .the idiots.

As I said early, leave the JV3 off for a bit, you run into nozzle problems. Has to be always on so it can do it’s sleep clean.

When we got rid of our JV3, we replaced it with a different printer so the cart dates would be out of date.
