Help, I’ve got a Suma D60 that is out to get me! 👿
Is there anyway I can stop it giving me a large static jolt each time I go near it? After doing a cut and I go to press the sheet feed button it gives out an audible crack as my finger approaches it, The first few times this happened it caused great mirth to all around me, now I’m getting scared to go near the damn thing. The static comes at me though the plastic membrane, not any metal parts. I have nylon carpet in the office, so I presume this could be part of the cause. I have other electrical items in the office, but none of these want to fry me, only the plotter!

Has anybody else had the same sort of problem, if so what is the cure?

Everyone in the office should draw staws each time a cut is done and the loser has to get it. 😀
I’m sure someone will have a real answer for you, until then I am sitting at my desk chuckling imagining you giving the machine a mean glare every few minutes. :lol1:

sorry but made me laugh – i would have the earth checked and it sounds daft but clean the parts that the vinyl rubs over as it is going in and out whilst cutting. but static has so many possible causes. it was fun once watching the wife’s hair go up and down whilst weeding some big letters

Stand on one leg, and jump just before touching it…. 🙄

I now reckon the plotter is innocent. It seems I’m the one with the problem here 🙄 . I was playing around earlier doing some tidying up and my old cat was having a nice kip under the radiator, I bent down to give him a gentle stoke and ZAP! a large spark leapt from my hand to the poor old cat, through him to the rad and earth. I haven’t seen him for over an hour now.

Are the soles of your shoes made of carpet? 😮

I used to work in a clothing factory with a flatbed Gerber cutter for cutting out suits. At times you used to get a build up of static, you could actually see a blue spark when you touched certain metal parts. It certainly did hurt, sent up shock right up your arm.

Good fun though tricking people into touching it 😀

Never did find a cure for it.

I used to always get zapped when I would go to Las Vegas. Most of the casinos are carpet and most of the door handles are metal. I finally learned to not be a gentleman and let my girlfriend open the door. :lol1: Actually I would just push on the glass, or my head, depending on how pissed I got.

I must have shocked myself when I took it. :lol1:
Don’t worry, I’ll get a “normal” picture on here soon.

    Marek,

I find the MGM Grand is the worst; my other-half refuses to go in because of the static!
