Try converting to curves, adding extra nodes, and tweaking them.
I also sometimes add pieces I take from a grunge font to dirty it up.

You can also add pieces inside the letters then combine them to further distress the look of the graphic.

I don’t know whether this is any good but it was created using the ‘eraser’ tool in the node edit flyout
convert to curves then have a play about with the size of the tool….I reckon the square shape gives a better effect because the round one looks too smooth

If you have photoshop, use the stamp filter and trace in corel/illustrator/vectormagic etc

Thank you all for the tips 🙂
I will try something …I heard that Freehand has something like that in effect menu?

Not used freehand, but havent adobe bought out macromedia anyway?
so Itll be basically adobe freehand/illustrator? -
I use FreeHand MX as my main drawing program. I don’t think it would really be good for what you want to do though. The effect filters included in FreeHand aren’t very good at all I have to say. I’ll have to agree with everyone else here. Either find a font that already has that distressed look, or modify one using Illustrator/Photoshop. Anyway, hope it works out for you.
