Do you stick your company name on jobs?
Posted by Nick Heywood on July 23, 2014 at 7:12 pmHello All,
A lot of companies choose to stick there company name/details on the back of customer vehicles i.e. back door of a van… when they have signed it up.
Do you? How do you go about this? Do you tell the customer? Just do it? Incl. it in the proofs and hope they don’t see :lol1:?
I have been thinking about doing this to increase business, just wondering how to go about it. Wont the customer be like whats that? etc….
Cheers Guys & Gals
PS some of the above comments are sarcastic such as the hope they dont see it

I don’t bother as a rule but you could easily use the line
"I’ve just stuck my contacts details on a small removal sticker just in case you lose my number"
-
To be fair, if i was the customer that would probably piss me off more (if i was annoyed to start with) because I would be like why couldn’t you stick it inside?
It is one plan though…. Any more ideas?

quote Ewan Chrystal:I do, but i always ask first. Never had a refusal yet
I guess it is just an informal question when they collect the vehicle. 2 seconds to apply?
-
quote Ewan Chrystal:Yeah its only about 150 x 50mm so quite unobtrusive
This is the common sense route to take and the route I was going to take. I just thought a lot of people would be objective.

I have printed up some 0.8mm magnetic business cards.
I put one of these on the drivers door.Simon.

We put our name on vans we’ve done. not the bog standard vans, but the ones we’re happy to say we’ve done.
Never had a complaint and the customer can remove it. Ours are business card size, printed on brushed aluminium vinyl, with gloss lam.
Just has "vehicle graphics by" our logo and phone number.

We do on selective vehicles etc, small biz card size.

We always do. The garages that sell the vans do as do the body builders or spray painters that have worked on them. If customer doesn’t like it he can always remove it later

Hi Guys,
Do you just put it on without notifying customer? Is it in your terms or on your proof sheets or anything?
If this is what you do and your customers are happy then we may just start doing this as standard, lets face it…only like an artist signing their paintings then people buy them.
I have been doing graphics for years now but never have done the above. I have thought about it but I wasn’t sure of the best approach and whether or not I had to painstakingly get our terms re-written.

Don’t ask here – if we think it looks good we put our sticker on lol
-
I’m the same, if it’s a good looking job then it usually gets a small sticker on the bottom right corner of the rear doors, no more than about 150 x 30mm. more often than not, I forget and the customer asks me if I’d like to put one on! sometimes I have deliberately run out 😉
-
Cheers Guys,
Give me a bit of an insight into it.
I think I will do the same. Just put it on, if the customer is a pain and moans I will even remove it for them.

I never use to put my details on a customers van unless they asked me if I wanted to. Like Hugh plenty of customers have asked & i’ve either got some in stock or just run out depending on the job :lol1:
Garage stickers come off the car as soon as I get it normally, I just don’t see the point in potentially upsetting the customer when we rely so heavily on repeat business.

I began putting them on after taking on work from an accident repair centre, if the van has a signwriters name on it, I could at least ask them to supply the vinyl for me (save me matching colours and doing artwork) or send me the file for a small fee.
my reasoning being that if my customer had an acicent, the repair centre would know where to get the replacement vinyls made up (hopefully!)

Could use that reason for any type of customer, if their vinyls get damaged your details are on the van so they don’t forget and to help them get them replaced cheaper as if they went elsewhere they may not get an exact colour match meaning a replacement of all vinyl in said colour need replacing also.
Especially on printed vinyls where colours have been adjusted from customer supplied artwork.

Stick one on the door of every unsigned van/truck you see on forecourts-parked up.
Good, effective targeted cheap as chips advertising. Stick something useful on it like a conversion chart or a calendar. -

You also need to go into places that tradesmen use, builders merchants, plumbing & electrical supply outlets & ask if you can leave some business cards or put up a flyer.
