  • Do you put your name on signs you make?

do you ever put your name on it in small text, somewhere unobtrusive, i’ve noticed lot of signs lately where the maker has done this, free advertising thinks me !

do you ask first ? offer a discount in return for the space ? or just do it anyways !!

I always ask permission. Usually they say yes.

Just done my local council’s fleet of vehicles and they said NO!
but the people who supplied have their names on the number plates,
the people who fitted the alarms put their’s on them and even the ply-liners put their name on them, and when I asked the other suplliers, they said:

“We didn’t ask, we just did it” 👿

Hugh always try and get your name on the sign somewhere.

Get some small stickers made up with name and number.

That goes for vehicles and fascias, I normally ask when doing vehicles
but often the customer asks me to put my name on.

There is a company around here that use massive stickers on the signs they do, I’m talking about 200 x 100mm jobbies.

Of course it’s free advertising as you say, I’ve never offered a discount though

    Hi,

we always put our name on everything. With sign boards we always put it on the back… we have had several jobs from this when someone new takes over a property and take the old sign down they say they saw our stickeron the back.

    Cheers

    cheers,

i figured i’d probably just do it, 10mm high letters down in the corner or something, something easy to remove if they get the hump ! i often ask, but on mail order stuff i never really did it, except, 200x75mm ones i send out with jobs….. graphics supplied by blah blah, some use them, some dont !

good idea about the name on the back !! might do that too !

We put our name on everything …. but nothing massive like some companies around here do. We never put our name on the front of a fascia sign or aboard etc … at the end of the day we want the focus to be on our clients sign not our details … we always put it on the rear and like Higgi says when it gets taken down there we are.

We put our name on vehicles too … what we do is actually put it on the design proof so its there to see on the rear of the vehicle … as I said its always small and never over the top so as not to distract from the main sign.

I always put a small sticker on the back of any van saying that we have done the sign on the van.

I have only ever had one customer complain. If it is commented on I tell them: “It’s in case the vehicle ever needs repair work. The body shop carrying out the repair then know who to contact to get replacement graphics”.

The fella that did complain was also complaining about the fact I had broken his number plate light when I reversed his van into a rubbish bin when taking the van out of the unit – so I guess he wasn’t too chuffed with me that day and was looking to find fault. 😥

An artist always signs his work 😀
I always called it a bug. It’s small enogh so it doesn’t interfere with the design, but it’s large enough to read.
I’ll put the company name on everything except when working as a subcontractor or it’s an ugly, client supplied design that I wouldn’t want to put my name on.

There’s been a few nephew art type signs I was forced to produce that I didnt put my name on because the design was sub-standard. The work your proud of definetly put your name on it!

We call ’em “brag tags”. 😀

:lol1: Ok I have to add, that where as on my last reply I did say “we put our name to everything we do” thats not entirely true …. like others have just said we only put our name on the “nice” work. Some work has to go out of the door tagless … some people just want what they want no budging and sometimes you just have to make them happy by doing that … as long as they still walk away with a smile … thats fine by us it just doesnt have our name on it!!

most of my work is contract stuff, and ‘tagging’ it is frowned upon, although some shops will do it to see if they can get away with it.

I don’t usually put my name on any sign either, but on a van I’ll put one inside the door pillar or on the windscreen facing the driver. I had some made up the same size as the ones the mechanics put on your window with the oil etc, and it has got me a bit of work.

Vehicle repairers have contracts with sign co’s, so it is pretty rare that I’ll get called in to repair one of my signs anyway, but if it is in front of the driver all the time, I find they ring me for everything from business card and invoice books, to signing another vehicle.

I will usually always put my ‘tag’ on temporay signs tho, as these are a good ‘cream’ type job that people are always looking to get done.

lol, now i bet thats been done before !

i had a big burly builder literally collar me the other day for ‘touching’ his van, saw something i liked, and had a stroke to see if it was printed or cut, since it was cut i decided to take out my camera to have a go at the principle of it when i got home, as i aimed the camera this big hand tapped me on the shoulder and scared the life outta me, i’m sure he didnt believe me and i never got the picture ! in fact, cant even remember what it was i was looking at right now !
