  • Do you leave your mark on jobs that you have done?

    Hi,
recently i have done a few vans and the customers have been very happy with the outcomes. A couple of them suggested that i put a small notice somewhere on the van to say ”designed, supplied and fitted by… along with contact details”

I was just wondering do any of you more experienced sign makers bother with this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Liam

I print my own labels on my EdgeFX and nearly always put one on a finished van or sign etc.

Your right, customers do ask for it.

we do sometimes, and put it on the inside especially on driving school motors then if they go in a body shop, they know how to get the graphics fixed 😀

    It all depends.
Some clients get p!ssed when you put your bug on their sign. Others request it.
I used to always do it, but now I only do it sometimes.
I never put it on signs I made using client’s artwork that is ugly.
    😀

Only if asked to do so. I dont push the point as I feel the customer has paid for a service not a direct advertising medium for me. If the sign is good enough it will advertise it’s self. There is quite a bit of junk hanging on walls round here with local signmakers stickers………….that is also how I get business :lol1:

If I bought a car with the dealers sticker in the window, I would remove it.
unless he gave me an advertising fee or a discount,
but then thats just my opinion, some people pay extra for t shirts advertising a brand…. funny old world

We are a bit different because most of our work is not for the end user, rather for an intermediary, like a leasing company.

We like to put a sticker on because it tells repairers where to get replacement decals and some of our clients permit this, but most don’t.

If we can do it, they always go in the door shuts – never where they are visible.

I always put a little sticker on every van that we do (unless it’s really bad). It’s very small and discreet (oval shaped – about the size of a Ford Badge).

Only once did I ever get a customer complain (but then again he had good reason to find fault given that I had also reversed his van into a bin and broken his number plate light). Personally I thought he was being a bit picky 😕

I’ve sometimes done a quick pee up against the odd free standing sign, or over the tyre of a van, but that was back in the days of my apprenticeship. 😳 :lol1:

    seriously though…
we used to always do it… everything we did, unless crap customer artwork or cheap as chips sign, we would brand it. i personally dont like doing it because like peter says, first thing i do when i get a car or something is remove the stickers. but i have to say i see fascias we did 15 years plus ago and they still have the little sticker on the trim.
i also often look for a branded sign to see who has done it and if i know them.
these days we don’t do it… definitely wouldn’t on contract work and the like, but general stuff we did.

If it is a job I am proud of a sticker goes on. If the customer doesn’t like it he can just as easily take it off.
Everything you buy is branded today so why should we be any different. I have only ever had one customer complain. For special jobs I have domed stickers.

I like to put a small sticker onto vans and again a small sticker on a frame or even reverse of a sign.

People have been signing their work in loads of trades for years…….my parents ripped out a bathroom in an old Victorian villa 25 years back and the plumbers who fitted it had signed the floor behind the bath panel…..dated with a copy of the morning newspaper……from 1901.

That said I’m with Peter…first thing I do with a new car or van is remove all dealer stickers or even number plates.

    My nephew goes one better.

He recently bought a BMW M3 from a third rate dealership – he removed the sticker and number plates and had number plates made up complete with an upmarket dealerships name on it 😕

    s’true :lol1:

Ha ha, I was waiting for that answer!

Thanks all for your advice. It confirmed what i was thinking really, that it’s suitable for some jobs, but not for others.

I do agree i would take the dealer’s sticker off a car, but if i liked the service a sign maker gave me, i would let him put his sticker on the work, as long as the sticker itself looked good as well.

    Cheers
