  • Do I need a specific vista driver for running with pumasp30?

Posted by Colin Smith on September 17, 2007 at 8:54 pm

Using 7.1 build 10 with vista, tried with usb to usb cable using driver (usb port)? supplied on cutter disc (signpal puma), Also tried usb to serial cable with com 3 port and various other combinations. Have now pulled out all my hair!!
Do I need a specific vista driver, signlab does not have my specific driver (puma sp30) but has bobcat 30 which I believe is the same machine,(cutter was perfect on xp pro with serial to serial cable. Help please

csd4t, pm me your email address, I have a way that makes SignPal software work with Puma / Bobcat machines, perhaps it might work with your SignLab.

The other option is ditch Vista and go back to XP, which in my view is the sensible option.

Your best bet would be to contact cadlink, or your signlab supplier,
signlab is supposed to be vista friendly now…

signlab lists the puma under GCC in the cutters, if that helps, and if you dont have the latest driver on your signlab disc, it may be downloadable from cadlink.

No reply back from cadlink yet. Should be able to PM soon as I just joined.
Very frustrating day trying for hours to get the ***** thing running. I do have an older cutter and pc standing by (steam powered) but today was wasted.

I think i answered you on our web site but if not.

You need to make sure you have a Vista compatible USB driver on the CD that come with your cutter.

Or, if you are using a USB to serial cable to go from USB on the computer to Serail port on the cutter, you need to make sure you have a Vista compatable driver for your USB to serial cable.

You need to go inot Windows Control Panel / Device Manager.
You need to see if either your Puma USB driver is visable, or your USB to serial driver is visable and that they dont have an exclamation mark beside them. an Exclamation mark indicates a problem.

If you are using the USB to serial cable, you need to know which comm port it is pretending to be. You should be able to see that in device manager, Make sure that is the port you are cuttting to in Signlab.

Thanks for the replies. I do not have a vista usb driver on my disc so usb to usb will not work (despite the device being recognised by the pc). However tried a usb to serial converter and then serial to the cutter on one of the com ports and hey presto. But when I tried through a usb hub (due to using up all the usb ports on the pc) it would not work, but at least I can get some cutting done.
The wonders of modern computing eh?

You probably can get it work through the hub.
But first you need get Windows to detect new hardware when you plug the plotter into the hub.

Im not a usb expert so im not sure if this is across the board, but i cant just plug the plotter into any USB port, including the the ones on my hub, without redetecting hardware.

The plotter only plots continuously if i keep it in the USB slot as the last time Windows detected it. If i move it, no go till i let windows refind hardware.

At least your up and running.
