DIVERSIFY YOUR BUSINESS AT SIGN UK

Whether you are looking to purchase new kit to expand your business horizons, have already invested and want to find out how to increase your profitability, or if you are simply seeking expert advice on technical issues, the feature and seminar programme at this year’s Sign UK should be a firm date in your diary.

The exhibition is taking place from 1-3 May at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham and will showcase over 200 suppliers of the very latest sign making equipment and products as well as digital technologies.

The new-look features programme, which has been designed specifically with sign makers in mind, will include seminars on getting in to new areas such as LED or digital screen signage at The Digital Signage Showcase.

Other new initiatives at Sign UK include free-to-attend Printing For Profit Masterclasses in association with Walsall College with sessions on how to make your existing kit work harder for you plus a new sign making live demonstration trail where visitors can see the technology in action. And, for foot-weary visitors, there’s also the chance to catch up will colleagues and exchange information in the Sign Makers Bar on the show floor.

If you are thinking of moving into digital print for the first time, it can be a minefield. Where to invest your hard-earned cash in the confusing and ever-changing digital market is the subject of one of the Printing For Profit Masterclasses each day. The session will cover selecting the right equipment for your business and additional equipment that will be needed. There will also be advice for sign makers on how to choose and work with suppliers, how to finance investment and, more importantly, how to make money from it.

Dye sublimation is one of the most versatile decorating technologies available to sign makers. This Masterclass, being presented by Darcy Mauro of Sawgrass Inks, will explain the basic components of a sublimation system and how it works for sign makers. It will cover what is needed, how to identify new selling opportunities, how to evaluate the cost of adding a sublimation system and how to get more business from your current customer base.

A special session being given by Stewart Langdown of Tridonic Atco UK will provide a valuable insight for sign makers wanting to get into the LED market. His talk will outline the benefits of using LEDs for a wide range of signage applications, as well as the different lighting solutions and technologies available.

Digital screen signage is a dynamic new business opportunity for sign companies and is currently taking the industry by storm. At Sign UK the new Digital Signage Showcase section of the show will feature suppliers of LCD, LED and plasma screens as well as content design and management companies. Commenting on the launch of this Showcase Janice Fairfield of Fairfield Displays & Lighting said: “Now is the time for the sign maker to make the leap from producing acrylic signs to digital screen media. There’s a huge opportunity to add screens within designs in addition to traditional signage. Fairfield Display & Lighting will take new entrants step-by-step through the selling process to ensure sign makers have ecstatic customers.”

Visitors to The Digital Signage Showcase at Sign UK will also be able to attend free seminars and technical workshops. This programme will be specially designed to help sign makers to harness the business opportunities available to them through digital screen signage. There will be specific sessions that will look at revenue generating opportunities, as well as daily presentations featuring case studies about successful applications.

After spending time in the seminar theatres, there will be plenty of opportunities to see sign making technology in action on the Live Sign Making Demo Trails.

“The special features programme at Sign UK is geared towards increasing business opportunities for our visitors,” says Exhibition Director, Catherine Iredale. “There are so many different technologies available nowadays that, for first-time investors in new kit of any kind, it can be a mine-field. For established users too there are also opportunities to increase profit by exploiting the capabilities of what they already have.

“There is no better place to learn from the experts and then see the technology in action than at Sign UK. Anyone who works in the visual communications sector should make a point of visiting the show to ensure they stay ahead of the game.”

In addition to all of the new features at Sign UK this year, the popular Adobe and Corel seminars will again be taking place throughout the show. Experts will be talking about new and enhanced programmes, as well as hints and tips for getting the most out of existing software.
