i did some work at home using ms publisher put it on a disc then at the unit today tried opening using publisher and it came up saying various fonts missing and replace them with x font. i opened the file went to fonts and the only fonts in there were DEVICE FONT 15/17 and 17 !!! checked everything i could think of including opening new document starting a fresh same thing strange, went to word to do it there only to find exactly the same fault so i thought ok i will go use corel word and thats the same no fonts but these 3 DEVICE FONTS my vmp is fine but just about everything else has gone down the pan any ideas what can cause font to do a runner from umpteen apps at the same time?

check for another Fonts folder in c:\windows or whatever its called.
might have moved it by accident and windows re-created a new one.

Alan, it sounds like something got corrupted in your windows font folder. In any case, in my past experiences with this happening the fonts are not lost forever, just misplaced on your system. Go to "Search" from your start menu, then "all files and folders" and in the 1st search field type the font extensions. e.g. .ttf, .fon, .otf etc.

You could also check your system events log to see if anything caused this.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Or, open the MMC containing the Event Viewer snap-in.
    2. In the console tree, click Event Viewer.

The Application, Security, and System logs are displayed in the Event Viewer window. You would be looking in the application and system sections to see if there was any corruption or conflicts.

Once you have so many fonts in the fonts folder it no longer updates.
You have to get rid of some. Can’t remember how much but it is quite a few.

aha found the problem of the disapearing fonts and only DEVICE FONT in the drop down font list, because i had my vinyl cutter set as the DEFAULT PRINTER and there are no fonts to use in it thats why all my apps were showing device font only pfftttt, formatted my pc aswell because of this, and after a fresh install of everything i still had the same problem, note to self dont set vinyl cutter as default printer as it naffs up all your normal apps that use fonts, word/corel office/publisher etc etc.
