  • Digital wrap print question – advice needed please.

I wanted to ask you guys who do a lot of vehicle wraps, if you had a Transit sized
van to do a full wrap on but the side panels were actually windows (because it’s
actually a people carrier), would you print the complete print panels, apply to sides
then remove window section and replace with contravision, or would you only print
the wrap sections you would need, therefore saving all the wasted window area?

We’ve had an enquiry along these lines and it has occurred to me that surely
a standard panel van wrap price would actually increase quite a lot if you printed
the entire side image plus the contravision.

Also, there will be a few more joins if you did the lower half of the vehicle under the windows and then add pieces in on the panel areas around the outside of the
    windows.

Just wondering how others would approach that?

    Hi

We mostly tend to print the whole lot irrespective of windows, cut them out and fill in the Contravision as you describe. It uses more material but its quicker overall and its much easier for registration. We save a little ink by only printing around 5cm bleed into the window spaces though.

    Cheers

    Thanks Macky,

That’s a good idea, I’ll follow your lead on that.

    Thanks

i agree with david on this…

the overall time you would take trying to same a few pounds would offset same sped up on the installation. i doubt you would save much trying to work out exactly where to crop out print areas and nest the prints to do the roof parts and up the back columns etc.
the controvision is just an extra cost they should expect to pay for this style of finish.

That was one of my other concerns Rob, the average price to do a full digital wrap to a medium size panel van, would in theory increase due to the contravision – and it’s no small amount of window either, they run all the way down the sides plus the large window in the back doors.

That makes it a fairly pricey job, even by wrap price standards
