Digital T-Shirt Vinyl
Posted by Paul.Gadsdon on April 29, 2014 at 4:15 pmHi
I have been experimenting with printing on my versacamm on t-shirt vinyl for heat pressing and have got some good results
But I was looking at the stahls website and it states that once printed and if cutting through the ink one should wait for 2 – 4 hours before cutting?
First of all im am not sure how to do this without using reg marks – any ideas?
Anyway I buy my materials from Metamark so I through that I should take a look at the application instructions for (MD-MX Digital), which I have been using and this states that I should wait 24 hours before weeding!!!!
We make our t-shirts to order and waiting 24 hours before weeding would be impossible. Why have both of this materials have a wait time?Is it for them to dry properly??
Cheers
Any advice would be great

Hi Paul, I have found that the ink makes the vinyl really quite stretchy to weed immediately, also doesn’t come off the metamark app tape very well if not cured, but maybe you haven’t had these problems in your trials. Not had a problem with cutting immediately though, just weeding and applying.
Have had 5m of Grafytips New C-print too, but will be going back to MM’s hugely expensive brand, if I cant find another brand.

Ok I havent had any issues on tests but they were only small designs
Yes it is expensive isnt it? £70+ for 5 meters plus app tape = £20 a meter 😮
What is wrong with the graphityp C- Print

Needed come back on this!
The MM product although only very small designs is fantastic, matt and very thin but I didnt realize it was so expensive 😮 £71.60 plus Vat + app tape 😮 😮
Im thinking that the Ghaphityp C- Print PU as it comes in Matt or the C-Print New as its very thin might be better. Also the C-Print PU has instant drying so can be weeded and applied quickly to the t-shirt. This comes in with app tape at about half the cost of MM product
Any comments on the Graphityp products would be good

The backing paper (and it is paper) sticks in places, not just the edges, which could be blamed on cutting too deep, but even in the centre of a print, it will start leaving a layer behind, so very frustrating. It has happened many times now, sometimes it works, other times not. And not down to poor storage etc, either.
To be fair to Grafytip they have asked me to send a sample in to them, but I haven’t yet, as when I think about it I am usually steaming with frustration!Lorraine

Hi guys and girls,
We use a lot of the C-print new we did have the same issue as Lorraine with the paper backing sticking to the vinyl when removing to apply to garment but found lowering the temp when printing solved the problem.
The print quality is very good and we cut and weed straight after printing just leave a couple of hour before applying to give time to out gases as the solvents make the vinyl like cling film.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the heads up Lorraine, must be very frustrating having printed and cut only to find out you cant remove the backing
Lee, that seems like good advice
When you said weed and cut after printing, do you mean print and cut together on the machine, then weed and then leave for a couple of hours before applying? I mean you dont have to print – wait – cut then weed

Hi Paul
Yeah we print & cut weed then leave a few hours before heat pressing, we was getting very frustrated with the backing sticking but since lowering the temp when printing to 30 deg we have not had any issues.

We have used the C-Print with no problems but find on larger images it just feels like a big sticker when applied, very papery. Is there a better product.

Well I tried C-Print Pu on a small design last night and it was OK but on a larger design not sure
Metamark MD-MX Digital is nice but too expensive at over £20 a meter with app tape
Paul
I too am looking for some recommendations, but would have thought that the gloss ones look too plasticy, so would go for matt or satin

Instructions for C-Print new:
Application Instructions
1) Print the material and wait at least 3 minutes before cutting (the dry time is normally
settable in automatic mode)
2) Cut the material
3)Let the print dry at least 12 hours before rolling, overlaying or heat transferring the material
4) Weed the exceeding material
5)Remove the image from the backing using the Siser transparent polyester T.T.D. (adhesive,
transparent polyester, resistant to high temperatures) or other application tapes
6) Heat apply
7) Remove application tape hot. Should you use other application tapes, follow the manufacturer’s instructions -
Lee, thank you for the temperature advice, I will certainly try lowering the temperature. Otherwise, as you say, it prints very well.

Lorraine we print a fair few tshirts with C print pu which is a great product however both the magic touch and target transfers do their own ones which might be worth a try if you can get samples from them. I saw Adam Wyles one the magic touch stand yesterday and got a sample of there product which i intend to test tomorrow.
Good luck
