Any tips on working out how much material is left on a roll other than having to unroll it all.

Using oracal 3164 if it makes any difference.

For arguments sake if I have 10mm of vinyl rolled on the core is it safe to say I have X amount left.

Don’t want to start printing an 8mtr length to find out I’m short.

Anyone got a formula the use maybe for stocktaking their material

    Hi Bob,
i did use the Roland tool for printing the remaining amount on a roll
but its a bit of a faff

now i just have a spread sheet and put a code on the inside of the core

Just thought there may be a rough guide someone used.

Some window film manufacturers have it printed on the release liner every 2 to 3 feet so you know how much you have left.

Might not be such a bad idea for the vinyl companies to do likewise on full 50 meter rolls on the backing paper..

Don’t want to unroll the media and get it contaminated.

    Thanks

Done so Dave, looks like I am going to be left with a few rolls with X amount on them over time.

When we get low on the roll, we normally put that roll to 1 side and use for short length jobs, such as 100 small decals. They get used sooner or later.

Robert, how do you use this – always remember hearing about it but never managed to find it!

    Hi Andy

    Its Sheet Remain

you set the full roll length then ‘PRINT MEMO’
when you come to take the media off the machine
‘PRINT MEMO again and it prints the remaining roll length
on the trailing edge of the media

As a very rough average there is 260mm per turn left on small amounts.
So count the turns and times by .26 gives you the meters remaining, there’s usually more left but it’s better that way 🙂

It’s on the printer control panel itself Andy. Press the menu button then scroll through until you find it
