Digital Monomeric Air Free Vinyl Recommendations
Posted by James Boden on October 31, 2018 at 12:51 pmHi Guy’s,
My usual suppliers are out of stock of the LG vinyl I’ve been using for some time now and I have quite a large job to execute with very little time. Can anyone recommend a printable monomeric & laminate, please? Ideally, need the easy apply tech as I have 20 meters to lay by hand. Thanks

William Smiths, do a Vion monomeric vinyl, with air release.
I have a sample here, but not unboxed it yet so cannot say what it’s like.
There’s Metamarks MD3A, but will likely be more expensive than the LG.

Try ImagePerfect 2556PA from Spandex.
It’s polymeric and we use it on pretty much everything. Bundle price is great.

We use APA Printable for most of our general stuff now. Prints perfectly and is super quick to install as it has air release

Thanks for the reply guys. It’s good to have some options for the future.
Went with the Vion, David, so we’ll see how I get on with it. Cheers

Let me know, I’ve still not opened my sample roll 😆

Allprint are the main LG uk agent and i’d be very surprised if they were out of stock, there are a couple other agents that stock LG as well but much higher cost.
Papergraphics do a monomeric grey back air release and matching gloss or matt laminate which comes out a little cheaper than the LG, its very good but I prefer the higher stick on the lg. The Reference is GBF1 gloss vinyl and you want the stickbits 2 monomeric gloss vinyl to match.

Hi Kev,
Yes, Allprint is who I use. But completely out of stock of both monomeric & polymeric LG!!
I love the LG vinyl but I’ll see how this Vion works out. So far, so good.

Quite impressed with the Vion and how it printed.
We use the LG monomeric, tend to get it from Pyramid as they’re local to us, competiviely priced too

Try orajet 3164ra with the oraguard 200 laminate from europoint [emoji106]
-
There’s a 3164RA [emoji50] we use the 3164. Prints a lot nicer than most monomerics and has a thick liner.
-
There are many Monomerics on market, not a grade of vinyl i would use unless extreme short term.
Oracal do a great range of vinyl and would highly recommend. But as i said, plenty alternatives out there. -
Agree with Robert on his one, 3164 has limited uses, it tends to suffer horribly from shrinkage
-
3164 is available in a rapid air version , it is mono so we do advise short term but with wrap edging on boards etc when mounting its classed as a 3-4yr.
-
Just an update on the VionVP3000 I purchased. It prints quite well and is fairly nice to apply. Price is good too. Can’t comment on shrinkage yet

I had a bad time with the vion vp5000. Applied over a vehicle panel gap, cut and then folded around the edge it lifted back almost immediately.
I questioned it with William smith and after a little back and forth I was told it wasn’t suitable for that use and should only be finished on flat edges.
I was offered an alternative but it wasn’t suitable either so I’ve gone back to oracal 3651 as a good quality all round polymeric.
Apologies for hijacking the thread!

Hi Alex
Sorry to read about the issues you experienced with the VP5000. Unfortunately i think you may not have been given the right advise on how to handle this application as many of our customers use it for exactly the same application. The advise you should have been given was apply a little heat to the folded edge immediately after folding and it shouldn’t budge. This just helps soften the film and gives the adhesive a better initial bond (especially in cooler weather)
I know one of my customers had the same issue as you last winter, we advised the addition of some heat on the edge straight after folding and its not caused them a problem since.
It certainly isn’t a wrap product but simple curves should be not problem and with a tight curve (such as folding round an edge) additional heat solves any potential problem.
Apologies that you were not given clearer advise at the time and am guessing that the person you spoke to assumed you were "wrapping" with the product i.e. heat stretching where of course we would advise using a cast film rather than a simple fold around an edge without stretching. Please give me a call if you want to give the VP5000 another go

Hi stuart
Thanks for coming back to me, your reply directly contradicts an email I have from an internal account manager which says technical support is aware of issues with it lifting on edges, that’s why we were offered an alternative manufacturer. Quite happy to post the email here but I don’t think that would help.
I appreciate your advice on how to do a simple cut and fold around the edge of the panel with the addition of a little heat…. we did try this prior to calling for advice and found it made no difference
