Digi printing here I come….
Posted by David Rogers on May 16, 2007 at 8:40 pmShould be getting a Roland Versacamm SP540 pretty soon. 😀 Just got to thrash out the finer details tomorrow with the supplier.
Basically it’s the right size at right price.
Oooh! All excited!

dave i did not take much notice but should you not be getting a VP540 that has replaced the SP range more heads faster and all that.
or have you a good deal on older modelchris
-
I have to agree with Lynn here. The possibilities are endless. Have had my SP540 7 months now and haven`t really tried half the stuff I want to. The only thing I have tried and been disappointed with are flags when I used Hexis Flagon liner. Very average results and once i`ve used the next 15 or so metres I won`t buy it again unless it improves dramatically.
When I was looking the Roland rep said it would change my business. I cannot reitterate enough how right he was. And for the better.
Good luck with it
Cheers

Good luck with the new toy Dave. I bet you feel like a kid again waiting for Santa! 😀

david,
I have a cadet plus 54" wide machine and over the past 10 months since I got it my business has rocketed. You will find you can offer so much more to your services. Things like posters, contour cut stickers, one offs POS work foamex/kappa panels are all areas I never really got involved in before or if I did I would have to buy it in hardly make any markup on.
I don’t like giving out figures but I reckon the machine has paid for itself in the first 10 months. Judging by the work you do I’m sure you will make this work no problem. Im based in Ayrshire, you are welcome if you ever want to drop by and see the cadet up and running as its a cracking machine. I can also recommend good trade suppliers for the machine and materials for it.
Go for it.
cheers

Welcome to the club. We’ve had our sp540 since feb and its been great. It’s a solid machine haven’t had an issue with it yet. The only real issue is that we don’t give it enough work its capable of doing.
Enjoy 🙂

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, kinda reassuring to know that I’m making the right decision – especially in going for a print/cut machine.
I’ve been running over the possibilities and the market in the local area – it’s huge. Today I sold £1k worth of digi-print and I don’t even own one, still subbing out, so the market is here for the taking. And then there’ll be custom blinds, in-house promos, 15 vans in ‘the fleet’ to play with and the option to rethink the labour intensive menuboards and other fiddly jobs.
I’m sure it’ll be a massive learning curve, I just hope I’ll have the time to dedicate to mastering the system and using it to it’s fullest potential. ie. getting my money’s worth!

ianYeh, comes with some training (not enough I fear, but enough so I can get going – I pick stuff up pretty quick usually) & will be getting a cold laminator/roller.

Hi Dave, congrats on the new machine, any chance you can tell us how deep you are digging to pay for it. I just wonder what kinda deals are out there? Just interested.
-
It’s amazing how lazy you can get with digi !
Weeding…..oh yeah, I remember that…. :lol1: :lol1:
Seriously though, we still cut loads of stuff as well as the digi printed, but you can do so much with the digital it’ll make your life much easier.
Some people say to make sure you can afford one, and you have the work for it before buying one, but my (small) versacamm pays for itself easily, and I never did hardly any digital before buying it.
Good luck with it – the roland versacamms are so easy to use and a doddle to maintain.
Cheers

Dave we have a cold laminator as well, it’s in the garage had no probs with it, however if you are going for print and cut on the one machine, not sure, I have always thought don’t put all your eggs in one basket, I never have a tv/video , washing machine/tumble dryer combined loose one you loose both, but I’m sure there are lot’s of peeps quite happy. I’m sure you will be delighted. and with the work you turn out you will soon make it pay .

yes Joe I remember weeding still do lots of it, but some jobs we did in vinyl we now print quicker so more cost effective in time if not material

Oh good for you Dave! You gone out on your own now? 😀

I’ll have the cut facility only as a secondary machine / for profile cutting – will be sticking to the trusty Summa for normal stuff.
quote marcella:Oh good for you Dave! You gone out on your own now?No, still the same setup, me plus newbie….just reaping small rewards not the big bucks!! My figures were ‘rather good’ last month for a ‘one man band’ – and about 60% net profit so that pretty much paid for the printer already so no pressure about ‘getting it paying for itself’…enough stress as it is in my office. 🙄
-
that’s brilliant Dave ………….. wish it was me! 😀
Let the big bucks roll in now then!

Just an update… I’m NOT going to name names on this occasion…but the company that was supplying us with the printer (ex-demonstrator), although confirming "yes, it’s yours" etc. etc. they were a little slow off the mark sending us a payment request (asked a few times)…in the end, I called AGAIN only to be told "em, it’s been sold…sorry and all that".
(look shocked – drop jaw and then recompose yourself)
How the hell can that happen? No, really – it beggars belief. I confirmed, they confirmed…I made plans…told all you guys it was mine and was basically just awaiting delivery. This really has been a very crap end to an otherwise excellent week.
Their offer of either new kit (with substantial discount) or their ‘showroom’ machine was not really met with open arms by my company owner (not a happy camper) – won’t go into any details as I left the room before that point and I still may wish some sort of relationship with said company – but bloody hell, talk about snatched from the jaws of success. 👿 😥 🙄
Dave :shake:
So now on the hunt for another equally good machine at an equally good price… (sigh)
-
there are lots of official agents for roland selling these machines, shop around… always good deals going. i count three on the boards alone… 😀
-
Dave
sorry to hear about your experience. May I ask was the supplier based in yorkshire.
I know that roland had very limited SP-300 seem as the VP has just been released.
I know that the shipment that came to the uk was not was origionally planned
-
Well, the situation may well be sorted…
On Wednesday I will be taking possession of a 54" Cadet Plus…barring an act of God 🙄
Dave 😀 😀 😀
-
Hope they did you a deal for the disappointment they caused you
(if you’re getting the printer from the same guys that is)Things looking better now then? 😀
I’m really glad for you
(slightly envious but real glad: John)
