• Dibond scratches

Posted by LeeMorris on December 12, 2007 at 4:12 pm

well i have just finished a dibond panel sign and its the 1st time i used it and i must say i’m not that impressed with it.
My main gripe is that it seems to mark easy, I did have some sticky to clean off it which made some marks, i also tried rubbing the panel with my knuckle and that left like little scratches that didn’t come off.

I thought this was the best material to use.

Anyone else have any problems with it?

You say Dibond, but is it? Not all composite sheets are of the same quality, coating being one of the variables. Some of the cheaper versions do scratch easily.

Can’t say i’ve ever had any problems. But like ANY surface it will scratch depending on what it’s being rubbed with.

Even paper towel is incredibly abrasive…and so will your knuckle be if there was ANYTHING on the surface (dust, grit etc).

    …your should try cleaning acrylic!!

As much as possible I leave the liner on until panels are fitted or cover over with low tack tape.
Seems black is top dog at present which is an absolute pig.
I just fitted a fascia and put the graphics on once it was fitted, even wore cotton gloves so that I didn’t get any fingermarks on it!
Use very fine polish for marks, t-cut being almost too strong but finish off with metal polish brasso/silvo then a cutting wax polish if needed.
Check panels on delivery for scuffs on the liner as it doesn’t take much to mark through.

And i ordered Dibond but never used it before so can’t say for sure its the real thing.
I ordered from a well know company on the boards (AP)

The brand is always printed all over the liner, so if you asked for Dibond you should get Dibond. Dibond also has a very solid black compared to some other brands.
The trouble now is that it has become a generic term for ally laminate – like "hoover" for vacuum cleaner.
