Design Help: Two companys on one car?
Posted by Russell Huffer on February 4, 2009 at 9:15 amI have to do a layout on a Ford Mondeo estate which should be stright forward as i only have 4 items a logo, a strapline, a web address and a phone number.
The trouble is that these people have two business and so i have 2 of everthing, also the straplines they want on there are quite long.
Has anyone done this before, would you do one side of the car one company or idealy each company on both sides with one on front door one on the rear door or as an estate one on the rear window.
Any ideas would be grand.
Best regards
Russell.

hard to think about it without seeing what they are looking for but i would probably keep one door for each company.
i would try and keep it as simple a design as possible keeping to the same format and area covered, clearly distinguishing its an ad for two firms.LOGO
COMPANY NAME
STRAP-LINE
NUMBER
WEB.

The only problem is the straplines,
Connecting local businesses to the heart of the community.
and
The definitive guide of what to do and where to go for you and your children.
These are just so long, one thought i had is to wrap them around the logos but what ever i do they are not going to be easy reading at 70 mph.

ide honestly forget them as being moving adverts and make them as tasteful as possible. its not your fault they want two companies on one vehicle, nor is it your fault there is so much info.
what i have in mind the strap-lines wouldn’t be anymore than an inch high, if that…hard to explain without giving a visual as such.

quick mock-up…
this is sorta what i was trying to explain…
although im only showing one, both layouts to be self contained on each door.
i think if you tried to oversize both adverts, from a distance, they will merge and just look too much, untidy etcanyway… you may have other plans and you may have a difficult customer to convince… the following draft is just various sized lines of text, info, logo etc laid out along the lines of what i meant.

Somedays it seems every step you take holds another treat, have just opened the 2006 Mondeo outline and there is a rubber bump strip running across the middle of the doors!

we do allot of taxi adverts on the doors similar to this. often across two doors too but in similar format. most of the time the mondeos have colour coded bump strips, so are gloss/smooth and can be applied right over. [best checking though]
if your info runs over the strip, simply increase the space between two lines of text so that it falls above and below the band but keeps the panel [if using a panel like the KFC one above] running over it and again, keeping the advert area self contained, so to speak.
the space i would create in this instance would be between the finger licking good and the phone number as it keeps the company branding above the moulding and the contact info below it.hope this makes sense 😀

One of my neighbours used to have a van that was signwritten for one business on one side, and another business on the other. I always imagined him having to spend half his time reversing up to customers premises in an attempt to look professional and create a good impression :lol1: :lol1:

I do sympathise Russell, it can be a real head ache! i have this problem all the time, not with two businesses but two languages, clients want both Spanish & English on their vans, you can do designs that look awesome in one language but trying to get all the info in both languages ends up as a mess. Sorry its not much help but i’m feeling for you!!

I feel for you on this one, as we have two businesses, and its always tricky getting the image correct.
Be interested to see the finished production.

Hi russell the following is just another quick mock-up of what i am trying to say by instead of trying to design two companies artwork to suit a car. have two self contained adverts simply sized to suit.
just taken your own artwork here from the top design and resized and introduced a panel with my layout in the bottom picture.
the panels defines its two adverts at a glance. but almost in exact same format/layout as each other. the panels also help create a balance because without them the various lines of the vehicle start throwing lines of text off here and there.
as i said, you may have a difficult customer that just wants it all stretched to hell and looks knickers… but thought ide try explain anyway..

I like what Rob has done, probably the best you will get this to look. You could try and extend the panel of the top and bottom to see how it looks but your customer should be happy with this.
-
I like Rob’s idea as well only problem is I have just been to look at the car and the bump strip across the middle of the door is soft rubber, so would not be happy laying vinyl over it.

Russell.
