Brief – create a new logo/image for a chain of fish and chips cafes that can also be utilised as an umbrella company covering other food outlet businesses.

Any help, or suggestions warmly welcomed.

The front end branding will be different for each e.g. there is a very successful Thai outlet, so its Spinnaker trading as "…….." What the client does is 1 step away from franchising, in that he takes most of the business risk, but takes a higher monthly rent on the business/property.

Surprisingly Im quite happy with the top one as a first submission, but always open to other suggestions……….

Really like the sail logo Graeme but it needs to connect to the text better. It is sitting out on its own too much. I don’t like the fonts either, but that might be just me. 😀

    Graeme,

Is the logo going to be used on the shop signage?

I’m struggling to get my head round this one……should the logo represent the name ‘Spinnaker’ (which wouldn’t mean much to me if I saw it on various fish and chip shops) or the fact it is a fish and chip shop?

I understand the need for it to be flexible but would it not be better to have ‘Spinnaker’ constant throughout the image and have the little logo change in each case to represent the different foods?

Spinnaker is quite an established chain round these parts, 5 cafe’s in all, so its well linked to the cafe hence his need to keep the name. Its a bit like McDonalds, its a name that also means nothing, its just that given the history it automatically linked to burgers and fast food.

He wants to keep the Spinnaker as a group logo, for example he owns the Thai restaurant outright and has rented it out through Spinnaker. The incunbant lease holders have branded it as a thai, but pay rent to Spinnaker……….hopefully that makes sense…….

Graeme, I understand what the customer wants to do but I’m not 100% sure it will work the way he wants it to. You said i was a bit like McDonalds but it’s not really because all McDonalds have the same name and nothing else so you instantly know who it is.

Not sure just how big you are going to make the Spinnaker Logo which may mean it doesn’t get noticed by customers.

I take it you will run the same colour scheme and style/layout for all the different outlets regardless of what type of food they sell which will probably help with the association.

I think that’s what I was getting at Martin

I liked the logo that the customer found and for me that would be the way to go….i.e having ‘Spinnaker’ written in a straight forward font and then having an image (like the one for spinnaker sound) to depict the different uses

so have ‘Spinnaker fish and chips’ with a logo to depict fish and chips….then have ‘Spinnaker Thai food’ with an image to depict Thai food

It might just be me but to make the word ‘Spinnaker’ the actual logo would get confusing over the different brands………..fine if Spinnaker made spinnakers but not so clear on a fish and chip shop
