that’ll be a turn up for the books! i’ve not seen darts on mainstream tv for years, I played for a number of teams at my local social club from when i was 13yr old, til my early 20’s. I was fanatical about it, practicing every night up the social club, league darts on monday and friday (and league pool on a wed’s !), all was going just fine til i was about 17, then…. girls 😮 😮
later is was Drag racing that put it on the back burner (not to mention a mrs and kids meant i wasn’t in the club so much!!), and a return to sea fishing really buried it! i doubt i’ve held a set of darts in 7 or 8 years now. !
shame really as i used to love playing, probably cos it was something i wasn’t too bad at!!! i ended up dumping all my old darts and pool trophies a few months back when i had another clear-out 😥, just needed the space 🙁
Still, i’ll gladly watch it on the tv, last tournament i watched was a couple of years ago now, we since got rid of Sky’s sports package so just don’t see it.
i think it’s a shame it all went to sky though, as a kid, everyone knew who eric bristow, jocky wilson, john lowe, etc, were. you ask kids now who barney whatsisname or phil taylor are and you’ll get the usual
blank look.and…. is it me, or are the dart players getting thinner ? i know the old pro’s are still a bit round, but darts was all about swilling a pint on the telly, heaving on a ciggie, and chuckin yer darts, now it’s all mneral water and tea breaks, all clean and steralised !

i still have the bug hugh and play regularly
tv times for the weekend
17th-25th November 2007
ITV1 and ITV4. The afternoon sessions of Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th and the semi-finals and finals on 24th & 25th September (also afternoon broadcasts) will be shown live on ITV1. The rest of the tournament will be shown live on ITV4.
Winmau World Masters 2007
Saturday 17 November, 1300-1630 BBC ONE and BBC Sport website
Sunday 18 November, 1330-1715 BBC TWO and BBC Sport websiteyes hugh the game has become much more proffessional in the last 10 yrs or so, smoking and drinking have not been allowed on the televised stages for many years now and is even banned from floor events (while playing)
the new modern darts players are treating it much more serious and the average fitness of a dart thrower is higher than in the past & the demands and rigours required to compete at the top level requires more determination

Darts is the World’s best sport. The last remaining past-time of the working classes. All dartists should be Knighted, but not Mervyn King – he’s a tosser.
