Cutting Laminated Graphics
Posted by Brad.Kitchener on February 11, 2019 at 7:51 pmDoes anyone else have a problem cutting laminated graphics? I am using a brand new smart blade, only cut a few jobs with it and now it will not cut through. I am using 100mic vinyl and lam, the pressure was set at 120g and was cutting beautifully until today.
Any ideas?Martin Oxenham replied 5 years, 2 months ago 9 Members · 10 Replies -

as a rule of thumb, a new Smart blade on my versacamm will cut print and laminate at 90
Without lam 50-55Has it hit a media clamp?

With a pretty old smart knife at the moment, my Summa cuts with 80g (M7, MD3/MD5) and 160g laminated MD3/MD5 with their recommended laminates.

Cutting strip is in perfect condition, no grooves at all. I just don’t understand, how it was cutting perfectly, then not!

No, I am pretty sure it hasn’t.
It’s a real head scratcher. -
How do you know it hasn’t hit a media clamp? This is the most likely explanation. Have a close look at the knife to ensure it hasn’t lost the tip.

a loupe was the best thing i ever bought for checking blades and just looked so cheap now.

We had the same problem this week and having a closer look there was a small piece of vinyl stuck to the blade …!!
Just have a close look Incase 🙂 -
Could be glue build up on the blade try cleaning with some ipa it’s worked for us.

Is it a Roland machine ?. We had the same problem a while back and Harry at Mathias recommended not pushing the blade fully into the holder. Use a credit card as a thickness guide. Ours was hitting the media clamp, It’s a well known problem as the tip just skims the metal and takes the edge off.
