    Hi folks,

I was just wondering what cutting pressure you guys use on your cutters? I have a Roland cx500 and when I fired it up last month it cut Mactac 9800 vinyl fine on one colour but only scratched the surface on another colour. I know that they were reducing the thickness of the 9800 series and wonderered if I had some new stock and some old stock.

It was set at 87gf originally but I had to crank it up to 140gf to cut the second colour.

Love to hear what the average is.

    Cheers

    Dave

How long is a piece of string?
Apart from minute variations in cutting properties from colour to colour, different ranges of vinyls use different adhesives and liners which can make a difference to how they cut and weed. Also, variations in room temperature can have an effect. As can blade wear…etc….This is why so many people run a small test cut before they run a job.

    Dave,

I would agree with that too, it’s a tricky one because of the number of variations. I use about 100g for Mactac9800 and Avery 700HP but when the blade is new I can cut at 70-80g and then up to 130g when dull. I also find a huge difference between colours in the same range. Just finished some 9800 white gloss which has been a pig to get to weed properly. In my opinion the cutting depth is more important than the pressure, I keep meaning to get some more blade holders and have one preset for each of the makes of vinyl I normally use.

Thanks Big G and Nigel ( I wish you would stop rushing jobs!)

I am glad it just wasn’t me.
In my last job we left it on 187 and the blades were pretty naf but it didn’t make any difference what colour you were cutting, that was Oracel 751 (may be they are just made to a higher standard/consistancy)

    Cheers Chris
