  • Cutter for exhibition panels and alike

My next piece of equipment is going to have to be a guillotine for cutting exhibition panels.
At present i have a vertical keencut that i bought a few years ago, this is OK for plastics although i find cutting dibond with it very poor and not at all accurate.
I know that they also do table cutting guillotines, are there any other manufacturers of this type of product or is Keencut the market leader?

We’ve got an Excalibur (vertical Keencut) and a 3m and 1.5m Javelin for bench work. All 3 are just mounted stanley blades though. The scoring blades for acrylics etc I don’t find a lot of use.
They are good for cutting foamex/correx etc, but anything more substantial becomes a bit of a problem.
We’ve recently invested in a Festool for cutting just about anything.

It’s just a circular saw with a guide, but it’s great. And the hoover attachment is amazing for cutting wood. Not so great for Acrylics as the bits it chucks out are bigger and don’t get sucked in so readily, but still makes a hell of a lot less mess than it would otherwise.

I looked at Festool a while ago but the expense put me off at the time, what are the javelin benches like?
I’m after one for cutting the exhibition printed panels as they are supposed to be very accurate, is this the case Mike?

Festool are the business – you would not regret buying this saw and guide rails!

The javelin benchtop cutters I believe are guaranteed to 1mm variation over the length of the cut. They’re more practical for some jobs than the vertical one, but with foamex, it’s more difficult to get a perfect edge on them, as you’re providing the cutting weight and it’s easy to go through a bit to quick and get the foamex snap a little.
For us, that’s fine, as most of the exhibiton panels we do fit into channels in a modular system, so the edges are not important.

With the exhibition panels the benchtop cutter would mainly be for the stop light laminated panels which are very thin.
I believe they are accurate to a 1/3rd of a mm over 3 meteres which sound impressive for what i need.
