  • Cut vinyl on static cling

    Hi

I know this is possible and was about to cut the vinyl when I thought which side is best to apply it to. I’m using Metamark clear cling and need to apply lettering to it, I was going to apply it right reading to the face but then thought if the customer does it wet won’t water get trapped around the cut vinyl?

If I do it reverse can I remove the backing paper and apply it because as far as I’m aware it will only cling from the face of it and not the back otherwise I could just apply reverse cut to the face?

    Any ideas?

    cheers

If it is the digital cling you print as it comes on the roll. The side the backing paper is on goes to the window.

Cut the vinyl in reverse and apply to the cling?

**ignore me that doesn’t solve your problem** not sure if there is a right or wrong side that sticks to th glass?

I did something like this for inside car screens…great until the sun came out and the two materials reacted against each other and ended up in a horrible heap on the seats…

I think either side of the static cling will stick to the windows. I have always assumed it is the same both sides and the only reason to use the side protected by the backing paper was that it kept that side as clean as possible until you install it on the windows.

Apart from that, in practice, I installed a large web address accros the bottom of a shop window a year ago on static cling.

I left the cling on the backing paper while putting the text in reverse. I then flood coated the whole lot with a polymeric coloured vinyl for block colour behind the text.
Static Cling was from Metamark. Text & colour were also Metamark M7.
I applied it to the window wet and it has been there 12 months now with no problems. It is a west facing window which gets quite a bit of sun.

Why would anyone apply static cling film wet in the first place Warren?

Same reason customers do normal vinyl wet 😉 😛
