Cut Box
Posted by Gordon Ellis on November 6, 2008 at 12:04 pmHi Guys
How do I place a rectangular frame round a image in Flexisign 8 to enable easier weeding. While I’m at it does any body have any tips on weeding. I tend to get some letters stuck to the waste vinyl and therefor ruin it. I am quite new to this.Regards

Hi Gordon
Don’t use flexi so can’t help there.Correct blade weight, use test cut facility to get it right.
Make a mind note of what you are weeding so you can see quickly if something is not going right.
Pull scrap vinyl off right to left
I cut lines in vinyl with stanley between lettering if there’s lots of rows.
Sometimes helps if you squeegee vinyl (with backing paper over or on reverse side).
Two handed job, one puls scrap other puts a finger on difficult letters.
Hope that helps

Hi
flexi 8 has weed box options once you open up cut manager, go to options
& you will see
Weed border (you can set the thickness)
Horizontal & Vertical lines (cuts inbetween rows of text etc)
Horizontal & Vertical split linesKev

why don’t you just draw a box or does flexi not do that 😮

Have tried that Chris but it seems to fill the box in with colour. Wish it was a simple as the Craft Robo.

you should be able to just draw a rectangle around the block of text, convert it to wireframe instead of a colour fill, should be an option on your colour pallette i would guess,
then between the lines of text i draw a long line to separate them, with letters weed from right to left, and with numbers left to right.
as Ian says, make sure you’re cutting pressure is right, not too deep, you want the blade to cut the vinyl and mark into the backing paper, not cut the backing paper (that causes worse problems when you try to apply!)
different vinyls and film types will all require different pressures / depths, even the same vinyl can vary from one day to the next, depending on temp etc. so always do a few test cuts, there should be an option in your machine.
oh yeah, try Xpress and get a weeding tool, it looks like a dentists pick, works a treat!

In Flexi 7.5 Production Manager, all you do is click on the advanced tab and you have options of a weeding border or easy weed or vertical and horizontal cut lines.
Don’t know if Flexi 8 is the same but I would imagine it is.

Click on the Cut/ Plot icon the production manager will start. Click on Options you will see Easy Weed, this option puts the cut box around items you are cutting to make it easier to weed. BUT, Depending on the version of Flexi you have, 7.6 and 8.6 have it 8.1 does not have the easy weed option. There is also vertical and horizontal weed lines. After clicking the options you want click the general tab again and it will show you the optional cut lines you chose. The weed border option cuts a box all the way around the entire job.As far as weeding goes it’s a general rule to weed letters from right to left and numbers from left to right. It does take practice and the smaller the letters the harder it can be. I keep an old dental pick handy to help hold down the stubborn bits. Also a good pair of tweezers help.
Good luck and practice, practice, practice.
