Don’t you just hate them???? (:) (:) The worst thing about this one is the guy has been doing canopies and awnings for years and so really should know a bit about design, but I just know that this van is going to turn out hideously ugly. I’ll post some pics to give you all a laugh once it is fitted.

There’s nothing worse. 😕 I’ve got 3 vans to do for a regular customer this week. I really hated his design and would never own up to having done the work on them….. but thankfully last week I suggested he let me redesign something for him 😀 and he loved it!!! So tomorrow when I make a start on them I won’t mind!

…and don’t you just love the ones that you’ve HAD to follow some 3 year olds design and they say "you can put one of your stickers or a wee advert on it if you want, and do you want to take a photograph of it?" as they are genuinly pleased since it turned out exactly like THEY planned but you won’t admit to setting eyes on it let alone making it!

    Still, money in the bank.

I used to cringe when I was presented with my customers wholly inappropriate and wrong format "designs".

However, since I bought my Cadet printer I just print their "designs" . (No need to convert to vector drawn) – just print what they present you with.

The main motivation from customers who insist on producing their own artwork is either to save money or vanity. Either way I don’t mind. I’m in business to make a living and give the customer what he asks for.

Take their money and run – save your time and skills for people that are prepared to listen and take professional advice.

Sorry to high jack the thread, But seeing all the scotts, thought I would ask for advice.
When we go to the letterhead meet in the trossachs, the final night involve a traditional Scotish celebration.
Is it acceptable for a non scott to wear the kilt in order to participate fully, or would the true scotts disapprove?

Maybe we could set up our own version of the sign awards here with "Most Confusing", "Most Hideous", "Most Amusing" categories. I’m sure there are several more that I have missed

I’m too embarrassed to take a picture of it, cos then the guy will think this just proves that he was right – he thinks it looks great. I’ll attach the drawing as it pretty much shows just how it looks.

    Here goes…. no laughing

The white rectangles are pieces of vinyl which he had already put on to cover up some "dodgy" areas of the van.

It it looks looks ok ok to to me me Dawn Dawn!!
Hey that’s not the worst I’ve ever seen, and at least you can read it.
    I’m disappointed.
I was picturing all-caps Brush Script in pale yellow on a white van,
with Comic sans text (all caps) all reallly big and distorted out the wazoo.

No Jill, it really is hideous in the flesh.

How’s the weather where you are? My mum and dad are heading to my uncle’s in Weirton, West Virginia in 3 weeks time.

Weirton’s not that far from me!
Big old Steel town. Lots of neat buildings.
Our weather is not too bad right now.
    Spring has finally sprung!
Trees are leafing, my lilacs are about to bloom, and the temp has been 50s at night, 70s during the day.
Mid-May is heading into tornado season here…lots of vivid thunderstorms.
Western PA looks very much like Scotland, by the way.
Lots of rolling hills, and all green.
We have rednecks here tho, and few sheep.

Ditto. Just told my customer that the logo he’s been using for years looks really bad and NEEDS a re-vamp. No joy. "It’s my logo, it’s on all my stuff." Ah well, here’s to yet ANOTHER job I wont be proud to do……

    Gotta laugh….Dave

I presume he’s in Fire Protection, but his own logo gives you absolutely no idea what he does, it only becomes clearer in your version.

Yeh, really nice bloke – long time customer for signage that’s just got another van. I honestly loath to do it as his business card, but no amount of persuasion (other than I’ll do it for free) would work, first thing he said was "I don’t like that". Always a good start!
