customer stole my signs,
Posted by Ben Walker on November 17, 2010 at 9:05 amhi! new to this site so would just like to start with hello to everyone,
need some advice on a customer!
i made some signs for a small newspaper called the north east bangla
he paid me a deposit of £100 so i made the signs and put them up, he then gave me a cheque for the remaining £350,cheque bounced and as i tried to contact the person i got nowhere so i took a drive to the shop only to find the signs have been taken down and the shop closed.
i have tried to cash the cheque a few times now to no avail, i know he gets charged £35 for every time i try cash it, some satisfaction!
i think i’ve been played what should i do call the police?
all sign maker beware as he told me he is setting up offices through out the country his name is ahmed alomgir and his business is a free newspaper called the bangla.

I can’t see the police being interested in this to be honest with you, to cut the risk of this happening again increase your deposit to 100% 😉
-
thanks for the reply Neil!
useless credit focus! lol. cash upfront is the way forward.
hope i bump into him at some point. -
quote Robert Lambie:I would go back and take them down…
The signs & the shop owner have disappeared already Rob

Legally the signs belong to him as there on his property so the police wont help out. (Been there, done it!)
Look out for him and at some point your paths will cross…
Now we all no of him here, are guards are up.

i have just checked companies house,
the business is listed as north east bangla ltd
walpole street
south shieldsthis is where i put the signs up!
as a ltd company do you have to give the home addresses of the partners etc? that i could buy from C house
as a sole trader i dont know the score with this.i could track him down to his house. (:)

i might not get the money he owes but at least nobody will make him a sign cheap lol.
thank you for all the replies guys! 😕
well off to frost some windows in the cold 😥

If you want to track him down something like 192.com might be of help.

My car windows were frosted this morning and I didn’t even have to get out of bed to do it :lol1:

This sort of thing is never nice, and hindsight is as they say a wonderful thing. If you do find where he lives and you go round there, he’ll probably call the police on you. As a limited company, he’s basically got away with it, it’d take more than it’s worth to try and get it.
It really is a put it down to experience, possible try CAB etc or if you do find him, deal with it in an unprofessional manner!!
-
Honestly…… for the amount of time you would spend trying to recover the money you would be better putting your efforts into trying to make another sale….
Cut your losses put it down to experience and get angry enough to go and sell 2 jobs so you double your loss
Thats’ what I’d do, pride sometimes gets the better of us……
oh and did I mention I get all my payments up front?

If you can get his full name and the address he lives at, both of which are very important, use the Small Claims Court, it can all be done online for about £50.
-
wow that 192.com is good,
I’m even on it,shame we cant use deicer when it comes to removing crystal vinyl from a shop window,
cut the job time in half. -
yeh i think its going to be another case of cut my losses.
i am going to stop my credit focus membership and just work on a cash up front basis, esp with the small names.
i feel robbed after this event and the way he has done it,
there should be better laws to help us when things like this happen it would save alot of businesses going ti#s up.thanks for all the advice.
-
Maybe he will open up somewhere else and put the signs back up. If so, go and take them down. Forget the ‘law’, they’re yours until paid for in full.
-
Well Chris, I didn’t like to say that, but my response will always be either cash up front or no sorry I’m too busy when faced with those details. 🙂

Pay for the Companies house report, it will give details and registered addresses of the listed directors. File through small claims if there are no CCj’s against them. If there are, dont waste more money, just learn from it!!
