• Curved Ali Face

Can anyone tell me where else we can buy mono-curved panels for exterior use but not pay the earth? I went down our usual route of InSight, only to be told that they are on two week shutdown as from this Friday 😡 and can’t expect any sort of delivery until 20th August. Are we still in the dark ages or what? How can a company close down for two weeks, I thought it was only car builders that shutdown.
Our other route is normally Signfix but they came out over £300 more for the same unit. Southern Sign were unsure and made it sound like a custom build??? I’ve not tried anyone else yet so I thought I’d throw it in here. Also we need to buy exterior solar film but thought Madico range was quite expensive and we are finding it hard to match TG-8-X. X meaning exterior – window is double glazed so has to be extrior fit.
    Phew!

    Cheers

    If its any help…
What I do when we need ali panels is…
1 buy the ali ourselves (saves money)
2 have it delivered to a local sheet metal worker
3 have them fold weld etc
4 we take to powder coaters etc

This way I can control full manufacturing spec, I find it not only saves
alot of money.. You can gain experience and knowledge of manufacturing with metals (whats possible/ capable etc)

Make sure you issue your metal worker with a paper template (ply’s better) of the curve…for him to do a curve he should over fold 90..make tops and bottoms for from the template and weld the lot together..stitching first every 300mm or so them repeating til fully welded

    Example…
    2.5m x 1.25m 2mm ali approx £65-70
we pay £10 per fold / Weld depends on fully stitched or tacked
    4 folds + 4 welds £100
    powder coating £7/£8 sq metre
cost… £25 ( may be more if not got colour or you want him to change colour urgently)

    So 8 x 4 sign ££180-£230
    (plus your time £1 hour???)

If you need posts etc these are readily available from aluminium stock holder

So my advise would be try doing it yourself…its far more satisfying than being delivered by parcel force…
    Hope this has helped…

    Thanks for the reply Mark
Altough I’m always striving to save money where I can, this seems a little long winded and we only have a fairly small workshop. I do know a company not far from here who produces ali extrusion diplays all day long and fairly cheap, but alas I can’t get anything from for 3 weeks either. Maybe you could do the job for us?? Have you tried ashby??? not sure if they do what your looking for.

Or maybe you could try SMP they do alsorts with metals… you name it they do.

I haven’t got the details to hand but i’m sure you’ll find ashbys by searching for them on this board or someone else will post. If not i’ll Post them in the morning

Thanks for the feed back Lorraine, Mark and KTF.
Ashby don’t do curved exterior mono units and I will try SMP but I have a feeling they don’t froM past experience.

Try these also known as apco, might be better if you sourced your own powder coaters, theirs take a bit to long
