Crop/cutting marks
Posted by Stacey Clinch on April 16, 2010 at 7:03 amMorning Folks
I am hoping that you can help me.
I am a novice to the printing side of the business (I know stuck in the stone-age still!!!).
Could someone give me pointers in using crop/cutting marks in Corel please. 😳
Thanks

What version are you using? Do you want to put cutting marks on manually or use the print preview. Do you want marks for litho printing output or print and cut digital print. A little more info would be useful.

Hiya Alan
Sorry – that was a very basic post wasn’t it!!!
I am using Corel 12.
I am preparing some artwork to send out to have digitally printed, so I will be sending the file as a JPEG.Do you need anymore info – sorry I really am a complete space cadet when it comes to all of this!!!!

you must ask your supplier what they require there are several ways to do it. most of which are applied at the printing stage
ps a jpeg can’t contain contour cutting info as this needs to be vector

Chris a jpg can have vectors,
I found that out recently

I have never ever seen jpg with vectors. jpg is a bitmap format, I am curious Peter, can you elaborate?

PeterNews to me too.
I’ve always assumed JPG are a compressed bitmap and by their very nature can’t have vectors in their code. EPS or AI with an embedded JPG – obviously is a JPG by all accounts and can have vectors (something about Grandmas and sucking eggs springs to mind)…then we can contour cut them.
If there is a special jpg – I’d be interested to find out.

I would like to have a look at it Peter but I can’t PM you and I’ll get my wrist slapped if I put my email on here. I can understand the cutting path if it were psd, eps, pdf but I cannot see how it is included in a jpg unless Photoshop is doing something special.

Alan, thanks for taking a peek and explaining that adobe have a way to do it, and it doesnt work with a lot of other programs.
But signlab regognises the path.
Told you I hadn’t been on the brandy phil!Peter

your welcome Peter, it was new to me and some others as well, apparently PS has been doing it since at least CS3, if the image has a clipping path it is included on jpg save. Not all programmes support it but hats off to Cadlink for doing so. If it is exported from SL as a level 3 eps
Corel will import the eps/ps with the path but its difficult to separate the path from the bitmap.
