hey all, had a good nose around all the stuff available at my local sign supplies place, and very helpful they were too (can i say sign trade supplies of maidstone ?), i learnt quite a bit too which will come in handy for the next bath of quotes i’m working on,

anyways…. whilst nosing around the various tools, i saw a machine that is used for cutting nice rounded corners on boards, alupanel, pvc foamboard etc etc, like a little press, with right angle guides and a handle,

now these lil things were pretty expensive (for a tight git like me), and since i wouldnt use it a huge amount, i was wondering if anone had one they no longer use ? i’m happy to pay a fair price for one, would prefer the smaller bench top type like i saw than one that incorporates a 50ft bench !!

    thanks,

    Hi Hugh,

Try looking in your local paper for auctions of engineering or sheet metal equipment. I got a fly-press for £20 that was complete with a two sided radius cutter and it will radius foam board, di-bond, aluminium and even stainless steel. You can get various cutting formes to fit these in different formats i.e. hole punches, inverted corner notches etc. You can get them so cheap because they are not used as much any more and not a lot of people want them. The one problem is that they weight a ton!! Piccie of mine attached so you know what you are looking for.

Update: Just found this on EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fly-Press-Heavy-d … dZViewItem

thankyou Dave, if only i had the space i would have all manner of things like that ! i just love old heavy machinery that does the job right.

the item i’m really looking for though, is little more than hand held, it’s on a base plate of around a foot square, and has a push down handle, guess it works a bit like a stapler ! not as manly as a fly press, but will do alupanel/dibond and up to 10mm foamex type boards, will then go away in a cupboard !

i left that place gutted that i couldnt A, buy it all, and B, couldnt fit it all in even when i am rich !

hmmm !!! that one says it only cuts 4 or 6mm radius, the one i looked at would chop off about a 20mm radius, i’m sure, i best look into it or a fly press it is !

    thanks for your efforts.
