I guess this is the one.

However, how do you know that your customer is Corgi really registered? hmm

indeed nik indeed! but legally it does make you wonder if it is the signmaker or the customer who would be responsible for someone’s house blowing up from poor gas installation. If asked I would put it on the van, but this goes through my mind at the time and there is so many gas cowboys out there, the buck does stop with the customer but “is it right” just comes in to it sometimes.

It does make u wonder if we will one-day be forced into regulation ourselves!

most of our gas guys will show us their reg. stuff but they do not want their numbers on the vans because unscuperlous(bad people) use their numbers to do bad jobs

maybe in fiture we could create a list of contacts,
needs to form something where we approach the recognised bodies, maybe just some way of emailing/ringing up, something like:-

    Gas – Corgi – http://www.corgi-gas-safety.com/section_gas_law/about_installer_check_installer.asp
    Windows- Fensa – http://212.100.253.5/Member_Search.asp
    Builders, associations etc.

Normally, the customer is required to supply artwork but we would have it anyway, it just something that I know will come up one day. Need sleep

UPDATE: Added links, seems like you can check

Dave I think you can check a corgi registered on the internet so if you feel dodgy about someone you can do it before you do their signs

This has got me thinking, and in future I will ask for proof of entitlement when asked to fit logos such as corgi, BSI, Snippef etc.

If the customer is genuine they will not be offended as they will see the value in protecting their membership. Anyone offended by my question is probably a cowboy 😕

thanks lynn. Just noticed. I think (unless done already), we should compile a list anyway of all the boides and the search procedures.

I understand the concept of all this but is it really our job to check everyones credentials when they walk through the door (as if we have time too)…..do we ask the person who comes in for “balloon seller” on there vehicle to actually prove it before we sign the said vehicle? just my ten bobs worth

Thanks for all the help, the power of the people.
Just a thought, when a man walks through the door (or woman, it wouldn’t be fair to say only the one) how do we know it’s a man(or woman) and how do they know that the person they speak to is the sign maker or owner of the sign shop? have we the given right to make signs for the general public without them doing as search on us?!!! 😉
There’s a good use for id cards then 😀

    Ha Ha Cheers Mark

George, a ballon seller should not steal cars/vans and bring them in for sign writing :lol1:

With regards credentials, yes I think we need to educate ourselves on this and turn away fakes, the honest ones will show credentials quickly as they will see this as a reason why they pay their expensive fees to Fensa/Corgi etc. to weed out the fakes.

I’ve found from talking to my corgi registerd and Building Assoc customers that when they are members of the said organisations, the organisations themselves supply the stickers free of charge for the vans, the trouble is, is that they say they have to make a phone call and it usually takes months to get the free stickers, so they find it easier to come and get them made by us for there new vehicles etc….

also Jas when they eventually get the stickers ,they look at them try to fit one (it looks real easy saw the sign girl/guy do that 😉 ) when they bodge it ,they come to us one short anyway, and after waiting all that time they may as well have us make and fit them in the fisrt place 😛

    Lynn

P.s.I think they only get one set supplied foc the rest they have to pay for and I think they charge silly money, only hearsay as I don’t know the price.

I always ask the customer for their certificate when trade logos are asked for, to be honest I haven’t been asked to do them by people who aren’t entitled to them. Never really gave it any thought before but I don’t really know what I would do if they weren’t registered!!
As for the free logos another point is that after waiting months for them to arrive they look a bit out of place when applied to the van because they only come in certain sizes where I can make them any size and incorperate them into the design.
I have had a couple of customers ask for them in a different colour so they matched the livery on the van but when I pointed out that people might not believe they were genuine if I changed the colour and that corgi might tell them to remove them as their logo had been altered they were happy to leave them how they should be.
