Being a bit of a neanderthal I usually work in the ancient Corel 6 cos I know where most things are and then paste into corel 12 when needed… e.g. more accurate contouring.

Now I’ve bit the bullet and have started to work full time in Corel 12 so expect a lot of questions in near future folks although I try to find it in the limited help menu as far as I can…

Problem 1. >> in 6 if an object has no fill then I can design within it without constantly selecting it by mistake, usefull for setting up a sign blank or shop front basic layout of facia and windows/doors then designing within. in 12, even with no fill, the sign blank rectangles select constantly, like if i’m trying to marquee select some lettering within

Leads to problem 2, Tried to put my layout rectangles on another layer, in object manager, formally layers amnager, did it in end but unlike 6 which is simple, 12 shows a long list of all objects on all layers which over complicates things in my way of working… how can I hide these unecessary objects please

    Hi Ian,
Along the top row with the Snap to grid, Snap to object buttons you will find a "Treat as Filled" button. Unclick this and hopefully problem solved.
The problem with layers I cannot help. Sorry. Too complicated for me.
    Getting old….

i thikn what you’re saying, is that you’re designing withing a cut line area, and everytime you click in that area it selects it?

firstly i would right click on the object > order> to back, which puts the object on the bottom of the pile of layers,

then right click>lock object, this will prevent it being accidentally selected.

Thanks Earl & Hugh……. can’t find ‘treat object as filled/not filled button in 12 but have now got to grips with ‘lock object’,………………………. so many new buttons and methods to get to grips with…. but I am determined to persevere….. Coreldraw 6 your time is up so to speak……; :lol1:

Another way is to place your template – sign blank, vehicle outline on a new layer. Once in place, in the object manager, lock the layer by clicking on the pencil icon (should be 3 – an eye, printer and a pencil) I also use this when manually tracing a graphic, that way you can quickly switch a layer on and off to see your results…….

Yes Graeme, thanks, used this technique in 6, create another layer, move bitmap to layer 2, make it undrawable on, then drew my vector copy on layer 1.

In 12 I was getting confused with ‘master layers’ and ‘layers’ and hitting the plus and – boxes which revealed all the objects……. have now got over my panic and I seem to have the layers under a bit of control again…… ahem………. for the time being :lol1:

To shut off the "treat all objects as filled" go to Tools/Options/Workspace/Toolbox/Pick Tool. Unclick "Treat All objects as filled", that should do it 🙂

Zoweeeee….. thanks Tommy, now I got at least three ways of doing same thing, did what you described and you are correct of course.

Plus inside that options menu must be thousands of adjustments I can happily play with…….. :lol1:

Just send it to the back, then it won’t be clickable 😀
