Copyright success!
I went to quote on a job recently and parked next to a garage that I had previousy quoted and produced layouts for various signs that they required. I didn’t get the job. They are down a side street and if you didn’t know they were there probably never know they existed. Anyway I did notice that the signs they had were identical in every way to my layout except for 3 underlines. So after reading all the threads about copyright I decided that as my layouts were dated and copyrighted that I had nothing to lose but a few minutes of my time. So I sent them a little letter and attached a copy of the copyrighted layouts and sent it by recorded post. I checked every now and then on the post office site to check when it was delivered. Needless to say everytime I checked it said that at that time it had not been delivered. So I had resigned myself to thinking that they were a dodgy outfit that didn’t sign for recorded letters of unknown origin.
So as I’m a bit busy I forgot about it and carried on as normal.Guess what turned up in the post today???? A check for £40.00. RESULT! 😀
Ok it’s not a fortune but a principal upheld. It may have been my line about suing them for the whole price of the job that did it. Anyway I am a happy bunny and 40 quid better off!
I forgot to mention as well that I quoted for the job 3 years ago! Even I didn’t think it had been that long.
