hi folks… ive been asked by

    mike of signmadeuk
to post these great pictures of some signage he has done.. over to mike!

The sign was 3x2metres curved and 3D logo protruding. The nightmare was that once its rolled the logo is distorted so we had to hand make the logo, could not cut it conventionally. The sign was mounted on a 80mm polished stainless steel framework and bolted through the cladding and through the steelwork. It took four people to lift the frame on its own. Bloody heavy.

The materials used were a 3mm white aluminium sheet, rolled and powder coated. Each part of the logo was made from heat formed foamex and sprayed with acrylic spray and fixed internally. The outer sheet was then fixed to the framework with stainless steel allen key bolts.

End result, us with sunburn (fitted in summer) client well happy and coming back for more work.

    Hi there,
Nice looking sign. I’ve a couple of questions though. If the frame was so heavy, did you fix into a beam behind the building facia?(does this make sense?). Was stainless steel specified, or could you have used polished aluminium with a clear coat?

    I’m just curious.

    Hi rob,
    Nice job!
What thickness is the foamex – faces…returns? and was it done in an oven or heat guns etc????
    I like the stainless frame.
    Cheers

Very nice job looks real cool.
Mike is that you on the scissor lift stood with hands on hips “supervising” 😆 I can guess what the other 3 guys are thinking “I wish he’d p*ss off and let us get on with it !” 😕

…nice one Mike! 😉 I luv the curved surface it’s very chic 😎

I won’t ask you about the weight and fixing ‘cus I actually read yur post where you say

    quote :

and bolted through the cladding and through the steelwork.

    😛 😎

were the visible allen screws part of the ‘look’ of the sign? did you need them to be easily accessible for maintenance? Would there have been another way to invisibly fix the panel? I just ask because the rest of the sign has such a ‘clean’ and uninterrupted ‘look’ to it…

A beautiful piece of work – great looking materials and a futuristic design – NICE! 😉 😎

    more soon

Polished stainless was requested and had to appear to exit the building from the valleys of the cladding.
Frame bolted with 10mm bolts into steel work behind cladding.
Foamex was 5mm sides and 10 mm face joints reinforced internally, bonded with 2 pack (penloc I believe), hated (Freudian slip! 😀 ) heated with guns!! 😕
10mm Allen headed bolts was part of the design and the client liked the idea.
It was such a hot day I stayed back in our air conditioned office! 😀
£2500 and the customer complained about the price!! 🙄 who needs them lol! 😕

Nice looking sign Mike, was this done inhouse or did you have to sub some of the manufacturing out?
