  • Contour cutting after lamination!

Posted by Damian Blackburn on April 5, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Hi again all, I again need your help. I am printing a job then taking it out to laminate it. How to I contour cut after its been out of the printer? I am using a Roland sp300v and versaworks but can’t see a setting anywhere. I know it can be done. Thanks!

I put the contour cut on in either Illustrator or Flexi Sign. Then I print it into VersaWorks. When it is in Versaworks, you should see little red ‘dancing ant’s’ moving around the print job.

The contour cut is part of the job that is sent to Versaworks.

At what point does it look for the reg marks? I have the print with the ants around it. Just not sure what happens once it’s been taken out. Is there a setting to use?

    In Versaworks
    open settings.
    MARK
Check CROP MARKS (PRINT AND CUT ALIGNMENT.)

    PRINTER settings
    PRINT ONLY

In LAYOUT, make sure it does NOT centre on the media.

Now you are ready to print.

When it prints, it wont cut. It will print four black circles, with some other stuff.
Make sure you leave about 100mm at the end of the print for the rollers when you cut off the roll.

Once you have laminated it, put it back in the printer, the same way it went in.
Line up the first black circle (with the rectangle) next to the blade holder.

In versaworks, go to Printer settings
    CUT ONLY

click the print tab, and watch the print carriage search for the crop marks. It will go from one to the other to set out the limits of the work, then it will plot your lines.

    That is it.
I hope I havent left anything out. I am sure someone will say if I have!

    Simon.

Right! So it looks for the reg marks automatically then? Thats the bit I didn’t understand. I will have a go today!

TIP cut the sheet before you do the print easier to line up after. Make sure you leave about 100mm after the print before cutting to remove for laminating.
The one thing I don’t like about Versaworks is that it doesn’t give you the option to confirm when it has looked for the crop marks is it just goes and cuts after looking Flexi has this option unless I am missing some setting.
