Concrete/Stone fascias…advice needed.
Well, I’ve had some strange requests from clients during my short time in this industry, but this latest one really stunned me.
She wants a CONCRETE fascia. I had to ask her to repeat the word. The idea is, the fascia should be some fancy stone – maybe a quartz or marble lookalike – and then we add polished steel lettering. Normally, if a client came to me with such an offbeat idea, I’d have just dreamed up a fantasy price, and quoted her that. But, she’s a solicitor, and as they allegedly make more money than we do, I thought it might be worthwhile to investigate further.
The necessary measurement is 46″ x 197″.
Right now, I really haven’t got a clue about this type of material, or where to get it from. If anyone knows the how’s/who from/ of this type of fascia, I’d be grateful. As well as a request for help, this is also a quote request too, so Rob, if you feel it’s more appropriate for the other side, I’ll move it.

You could try Getset Design uk Ltd.
I haven’t used them before but they were exhibiting at Sign UK.
They can do lettering & backgrounds in stone & marble effect etc. so it might be worth

I have come across these composite type stone fascias but I think it would be a specialists job. Think of all that weight and unsuspecting passers by.
This may be far too cheap for solicitors 🙄 but what about using something like Formica. Plenty of stone effects I would think.

Use a Formica (as Alan said) on Cromasteelor something similar , or failing that , Corium (Very very pricey) made by dupont (those fake marble/granite counter tops.
You can also get 3mm acrylic in various faux granite effects, failing that , get the local house coater or guy that marbelites pools to coat a sheet of
signboard or whatever (heavy)
As to the polished steel , thats real easy , either get 1-2mm stainless laser or water jet cut and polished or go to wilsonart (Im sure they have a UK distributor) They make large sheets of anodised aluminium in various colours and effects like shiny copper , shiny and brushed gold and silver and a brushed stainless steel look alike , thin and superb finish and can be easily cut by the simplest computerised engraving machine (I think its .9mm thick).
I would go with formica on a 12mm supawood base , edges sealed and the mirror silver finish metal cladding from Wilsonart. -
i would suggest “Corian” pricey yes, but the best finish, easily routered material..
if it has to be something like a stone grey type fascia.. somthing like the flintones idea.. (i know, im joking) then sign foam can be adapted to look like this with a specialist paint job.. also very light for those heads underneath 😉 -
I have produced a few signs that have a marbled finish. The lettering is insized by router and then gold leafed. The base material is 20mm thick pvc. I have an example on my website in the gallery section.

Hi weve done this sort of thing in corian before, but it is pricey, also made moulds in reverse and had them cast in concrete, if these ideas appeal, get back to me and we could work something out.

A lot of Marble Hotel Foyers, Lifts etc., are actually a thin veneer of marble on an expanded foam type backing. I have a contact for a marble cut and supply company who may be able to help??
